999 Painting Fairings

  1. Has anyone had success re-spraying their fairings? Ive some OEM ones was thinking of tarting up... it would probably be cheaper than new OEM ones... I guess depending on who does the work.

Either that or OEM quality aftermarket jobbies? Not looking for race reps, just standard finish.

  2. I have resprayed many fairings and it has never been a problem, if you have the patience and necessary skills\experience.

Admittedly I do have decent equipment and several spray guns. Were you contemplating doing them yourself? in which case most of the work is preparation which can be time consuming.

Certainly paint is available from a number of sources and I use mainly ICI paints or Lechler, which are Italian, and were once the supplier to Ducati.

  3. Ive actually done some spraying years back and was planning on doing all the prep. Ive no spray gear so figured on taking it to a pro. I guess its all up to my prep and their spray skills as to how decent the final outcome would be.

Thanks for the tip on paint brands.

  4. Preparation should save you a bit of money, you will need to establish if a company will take what you have prepared for final coating or priming and coating.

Some companies won't do it, others will but will supply no guarantee unless they do the full job and some will quite happily accept you doing all of your own preparation and just finish it off for you.

If you establish that up front you should not have any problems. Preparation is the most time consuming of the work so you should be able to save yourself some money.
