Hi all, Wondering whether anyone's had any experience with painting or powder coating their wheels. I'm after changing the colour on my 796 (currently black wheels), but I want to give it the S2R look with red wheels... then I can red pinstripe it for the full effect Trouble is I have no way of getting them off in the first place. Anyone come across a company that could take the bike, remove the wheels and tyres, sort the wheels then refit? Want this look: Ta Tricky
i painted Angies - Ducati racing gold (D353 colour code) the same as the monster S,1098,1198, i too looked at powder coating but the only gold was nowhere near the proper colour, but the finish is just as good although possibly no quite as durable but polish up brilliantly. I would have gone the powder coat route though if the colour matched.
i would say powder coat as the finish is nearly as good as paint these days (if done by a automotive specialist not a garden furniture one) and is a lot more durable.. where abouts are you would help! reality motor works in Bristol done mine (although i stripped em myself) but im sure Nic would do the lot..he is a top bloke, biker and very helpful. they done all my powder coating and polishing (including redoing polishing i had done else where as after seeing their work the other chaps didnt come close)
I've got both. Here's a set of standard 3 spoke Brembos from my 900SS. They're not original Ducati colour - they're closer to Campagnolo gold 70's era.. Close up I've also got a pair of 5 spoke Marchesini that had been professionally painted rather than powdercoated. Can't find a pic at the moment but they are fantastic. The surface prep on them was top notch, just not sure if they will hold up as well as the powdercoated ones - hence lightweight 5 spokes for trackbike and the 3 spoke ones shown go on the road bike
