I am considering options for my annual Xmas bike buy and the above two bikes are going in my letter to Santa Claus but I need to choose between the two. The Aprilla would be be an early (ie: 2009/10) model btw. I love the sound of the Aprilla and I like the fact that it’s got a fairly exotic engine configuration, but I prefer the looks of the Pani, plus there’s the brand loyalty thing and that I won’t need to build up a new network of eg: parts suppliers, workshops and sources of advice. Usage will mainly be trackdays but it will be ridden on the road as well. Thoughts? Thanks
I’m pretty compact too. 5’9” but long in the leg, just about holding onto and kidding myself that I’m an “athletic build”
My mates about your size and he's got one. He loves it and goes pretty well on it. But I've another mate who also had one but he's a bit of a Clydesdale (>100kg) and he got rid fairly quickly, didn't like it. Bang for buck and track thrashage, I'd be leaning toward the Aprilia. The big twins are harder work to ride fast too. Apparently.
I was looking for a bik elast year and had a couple of test rides on RSV4 Factory's - I admit they are fast but for me they just didn't provide the excitement that I wanted from a bike. Too easy to go fast on! Also, being a short arse (5'7" 10 st), I cfound them a bit too tall for comfort. Agree they are cheaper - one I looked at was around £7K with all bells and whistles.
Sure is. By some margin. Google the ECU gremlins on them too. Not sure which models were effected. But I've seen a few naughty Aprilia's laid up at track days with ziggy issues. Don't be put off, just check it out before you decide
That’s not going to be a problem for me, honestly, as I make going at even an average pace look quite difficult at the best of times.
That’s kind of what I was thinking as £7k is a hell of a lot of bike for the money and was wondering if there was a catch.
Cracking bikes for the money. Perfectly at home on track too. And they bloody shift! Followed my chum plenty of times to see they're not wanting in the power department.
I'm 5'8 and the Pani is perfect, have a 2012 1199S and its all I need, in fact its way quicker / better than I am but the deal was too good to not do .....
Was about to write something similar.. I've owned both 2012 Pani and 2014 APRC.... the Aprilia is a heavy little fecker and down on power (compared to other bikes) until 2015 I think. It depends what you want to use it for but on a track you will notice it... as a road bike the Aprilia wins hands down for me though, accessible power and comfy whereas the Pani doesn't get fun until you wind it up and get into licence losing territory..
I'm going from memory (and that's sketchy at the best of times) but I have it in my head that a 66 plate was in the region of £6750 and a 68 plate was £8300...........because they made a big thing of it being 60% cheaper than a Pani of the same vintage.
Heavy? Really? I thought I’d heard the opposite or perhaps I have only been reviews of the recent model
Yeah the APE is 208KG Wet and and 1199 is 188KG ... the newer Aprilia's are lighter and have more power but don't think that happened until 2015+ ?
