Panigale crash

  1. I'm not a fan of crash videos and almost never look at them. Sort of stumbled on this by accident (I think Youtube suggested it to me).

What I find interesting is how totally avoidable the accident was. Sure, the van goes on a red light, but that might not be so surprising. In France, certainly, you are allowed to turn right on a red light (remember, they are on the other side of the road, as here). Don't know about the States.
Then, quite clearly, the rider makes no reaction once the van is already out, instead of instantly hitting the brakes. Then, he makes a suicidal decision to come inside the van, and the rest is history.
Out of curiosity, I looked at another of his vlogs and it appears the Panigale is his first bike over 600cc. That's quite a jump, from 600 to a 1200 top of the range twin. But frankly, if he rode his 600 like that, the same thing would have happened.

If you have stonking brakes with ABS, it's a good idea to use them.

I guess being a vlogger doesn't necessarily make you a great motorcyclist.

  2. He didn't even slow, I think he thought the van was going to stay in the outside lane, not come back across.

  3. So he had no Plan B.
Always have a Plan B if you want to stay out of hospital.

  4. You could see the van was coming in towards the curb, that alone would have made me anchor.

    That was just soooo avoidable!

Why the fuck didn't he hit the anchors you wouldn't even have needed to brake that hard.

As the vid opens the first thing he's doing is passing a van on the inside, not a clever move at the best of times. My vote goes to the numpty thinking he could do the same thing to the van coming out of the side street and his warp speed Panni would ensure he was by the guy before he knew he was there. Well he got one bit right the guy almost certainly didn't know he was there.

I've seen this behavior a lot, motorcyclists not giving drivers a chance to spot them, he's in a big box, with restricted vision and cannot keep his eyes on all the mirrors all the time. Observation is not a commutative law

  6. I feel sorry for people in this situation. Probably his dream bike and a mistake has destroyed it. Obviously mistakes come in all shapes a sizes (I'm including bad decision-making in this) but we all make them....its just some are bigger than others.

  7. On the other hand...what a cock. Completely avoidable and an accident which was a result of his own terrible riding. Undertaking a van?! I expect he was trying to get out of the way of the speeding red bike to leave room for him on the outside. He's luck to get away with it in 1 piece.

Hopefully he's not done any serious damage to himself

  8. very unavoidable - cant see why he felt the need to go up the inside of the van - not much commuter skills or thinking ahead here!!

  9. I've just watched a couple of other videos and its not his bike........he was leant it by someone who had watched his video about it being his dream bike. I bet the owners feeling pretty sick too. Still, looking at his other videos his riding is nothing if not consistent.

  10. Yep, totally avoidable, but I bet he blames the van driver. In the US it is permitted to right turn on a red light unless otherwise indicated.

  11. It was avoidable. Unfortunately his experience to make the correct decision was lacking.

  12. Yep, although it pains me to admit it...El Toro is right o_O

The guy made a bad decision

  13. plenty of time to brake!!!!

  14. I'm always right. Even when I'm wrong :p

  15. All of my faults, are not my fault ;)

  16. I'm not a fan of bike crash vids. they make me shudder. One thing they all have in common is it doesn't matter whether it's a 50cc bike worth a couple of hundred quid or 50K Super Leggerra, they all sound exactly the same when they slide down the road. Hopefully he was OK.

  17. Ouch. Bet those metal railings felt nice :Hurting: Avoidable...probably, but as Gliddy has said, how experienced were they?

  18. Hmmm, speeding in built up areas. Tosser. A well deserved accident.

  19. The railings? Probably very experienced, at being railings. Lets face it, not much of a career ladder there is there.

Oh hang on, they could aspire to become the rungs of a ladder, move up in the world, as it were....
