1199 Panigale Electrical Problems - Advice Needed

  1. A friend of mine is having a strange electrical problem with his 1199 and has asked if I can post this to see if anyone can offer advice.
It started as an intermittent failure of the right indicator and he booked it in to the dealer to be looked at. They checked it over and cleaned contacts etc and it seemed to be fixed (it was also MOTd at the same time). The problem is now back (but not all the time) and the trip meter is also playing up - it shows ok but can not be reset - the really strange thing is that if you switch the ignition off and then back on an hour or two later it all works again.
Anyone got any idea where to start looking - I suspect a problem with the left bar switchgear but can not think of any reason why it should start working ok again after standing for a while.

  2. There has been a technical recall for this. Worth checking with a dealer to see if its applicable and/or has been done. It’ll save the cost of new switchgear.

  3. Ok - thanks, I will get him to contact the dealer again (he lives out in the sticks so it is a bit of a trek to get things checked at the nearest dealer).

  4. If it helps. Pm me his vin and I’ll check for him.

  6. As Nelly says, there was a recall, I think for an indicator issue, with the left hand switch gear. From memory, I think a resistor needed fitting, pretty sure it was a small upgrade to the loom.

But not sure that’s also to do with not being able to reset the trip? Reason I mention this note of caution is I’m having issues with the commands from the left hand switch gear not making it to the main menu on the dash. So for example, I can, intermittently, scroll forwards but not backwards through the menu. And I’ve replaced the Ducati switchgear with and aftermarket race switch block, same issues.

It’s currently being looked at so I’ll post an update ASAP.

  7. I had the dealer send me this and it fixed the problem

  8. Thanks to all who have replied and helped with this as intermittent electrical problems can be really difficult to resolve.
Will post an update in due course.
