Any of you guys own/owned or riden both the Panigale and 1098R - What's your thoughts of one v the other ?? Am sort of toying with the idea of exchanging my R for a Panigale - What do you reckon? Good move  or bad :frown: ??
I ordered a tric, got a test ride of an S while waiting for delivery. Cancelled and kept my R. Would probably have one, but not without keeping the R too.
the R is an exclusive thorough bred racer for the road..the pani, the ultimate road going superbike...so a difficult choice...residuals will be stronger on the R imho..personally, i think i would plump for the R, due to its sheer potential...it years to come i think they will become a very collectable machine, and possibly the last of the breed..whilst the pani may be technically superior on paper, i dont think it will as desirable in the future...unless of course you opt for the Tric.
I have a Panigale Tricolore and a Bayliss 1098R. They are two different animals but both definitely Ducati. The 1198R is a beast, it's high geared, full of torque, lumpy at low revs but on fast sweeping roads there's nothing like it. The Panigale is more civilised (until you hit 8,000rpm), has less weight on the wrists, with the Termignoni exhaust fitted is very civilised at low revs (except for the heat) and is most definitely a stage ahead of the R in development terms. It's physically much smaller, turns quicker, has more responsive handling, the riding modes are superb, suspension adjustability is amazing and the dash is a thing of beauty. I've ridden the Panigale R and I simply can't tell the difference between that and the S, except for slightly quicker acceleration due to an addition 2t on the sprocket. In short, the Panigale is more advanced and more civilised than the 1198R. However, the 1198R is a very, very special bike and I think Ducati have missed a trick with the Panigale R as it's simply not different enough from the S. The 1198R isn't an easy bike to get on and ride quickly straight away (unlike the Panigale) but once you get used to it, you realise quite how special it is. It is the last of the truly great Ducati R's. Which one you buy is up to you but I think you really should test ride them back to back on your favourite roads !
Life is seldom full of fulfilment, regrets on the other hand (much like panigale's) are a plenty! Keep the R.
I tried a Panigale S last year, nice bike and what's been said already is true. 1098R still looks mega in my opinion kept the R and handed the Panigale keys back.
that is a tough one. the panigale sure is a amazing looking bike but an R and that is any R(999,1098,...) will always have that little extra. henk!!!
For some reason, the Pani leaves me cold. Efficient, fast, good looking - everything a Ducati superbike should be. But line it up next to a trellis framed Duca, and it's just... maybe too far ahead of itself? Market seems flat for the Pani- Got a mate who is selling an absolutely mint Tricolore and he is taking a bath on it since buying from new.
Some of us have had calls from Bologna, trying to persuade us to buy Panigale's, a very nice bike they are. Thanks but no thanks. However I just don't like it enough to swap. Went out on the 1098R a few weeks ago after a service & MOT and still enjoyed the ride with a quiet grin from ear to ear, more than the 1199 even after it was stood for 18 months. To me it's a 250 in a big bike just like the Aprilia RSV4 is. You pays your money and takes your choice.!.
Tone keep the R it's a lovely bike. If you had a 'normal' 1098 or 1198 then yes I could see where you'd be coming from in thinking of changing your ride. Off topic if things go to plan I'll give you a call week after next, I'm thinking breakfast at Smokey Joes to start then a nice little blat to Porthleven and see where we end up from there
I'm actually coming around to the looks of the Pani, really didn't like it at first, plus I still think it's waaaaaaay too expensive compared to the the comp. If I had the choice I'd be 'aving the R. Prob will when they hit £10k. BUT, reckon they are a bit precious and I for one would be shit scared of dropping it on the drive or going balls to the wall at a track day... Maybe that's just me. Prob' end up as ob jetd'art in the dining room...
I had this choice when the Pani came out after I sold my 999R. I went for the 1098R and I'm glad I did. I think the Pani looks ace and the game moves on but I love my 1098R. As previously stated its the last in line of the trellis/clutch type. Perhaps a future classsic. And by christ, it goes like fuck!! Its been well breathed on mind you, 70mm termi's, ecu, race cam kit and 60mm bell mouths. I just wish I could wring its neck and stop riding like a fanny on track.... Its got unbelievable shove out of corners. Scary shove... See y'aal (some) on the 28th. Fingers crossed for sunshine.
