The last couple of times that I've been out on the V2 (since it's first service the other week) I've noticed quite a strong smell of petrol in the garage afterwards, when I've put it away. I've checked the bike over a few times and I cant see any evidence of a leak, either on the bike or the carpeted garage floor. I spoke with the dealers yesterday and today about it, and they assure me that they don't disconnect any fuel lines etc during the service. They asked me to check if there was any back pressure when opening the fuel cap, and everything was fine there (I checked the Scrambler too just in case it was that). The only thing they can think of is that the V2 has a charcoal filter fitted so that it meets Euro 5 regs, and that deals with fuel fumes, so perhaps its that that's been overloaded in some way and it's just venting. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their V2?
Hey bud, Being honest all the panigale's i've owned have smelt fairly strongly of fuel after a ride. Not sure this helps at all, especially if yours didn't do it before @Spence might be able to help re charcoal filter, he's probably had his in a million bits by now
Both my V4s and the Pani R on occasion stink (stunk in the case of the v4) the garage out, especially on a hot day.
No overt after-ride garage smells for any of my Ducs (748R, 1098S, 1299S, V4S). Our American cousins hate their charcoal canisters, so perhaps take a gander at some of the American forums for advice.
When I'm in the garage with the pani my misses always ask,s why do I reak of petrol they are pretty smelly !
I've never noticed it this bad before with my 848, 899, or 959. And I have only noticed the V2 after it was serviced 10 days ago.
I’ve always had a petrol smell every time I put the Pani back in the garage. I do two things to once it’s chained up, undo the petrol cap and then close. Wait an hour or so before I cover it. Seems to reduce the smell for the next time I go in the garage.
Had it occasionally with the DVT and the 1260, got to the point that I would do a walk around to check for leaks on more than a few occasions, it was intermittent so I put it down to breather being overwhelmed !!
My V2 does smell also, it is a combination of things as it seems to get so hot that lots of smell comes off various parts. This bike really does run hot in my opinion
Ride mine 50 sure does. I rode a V2 50 miles this afternoon and my Pani R the 50 miles back. V2 was significantly hotter. It was like the v4s I used to have.
Funny you say that I could hear gas venting from my pani R last night when I returned from a ride, that stank of fuel.
Might be the fuel tank. Mine used to whistle after a ride as the heat was causing fuel vapour to try and escape the filler
no, they shouldn't be vented. the evap control system should be fully sealed to. my fugly is reeking of fuel these days. i'm pretty sure its coming from around the seal of the fuel pump area. but i'm afraid to touch it in case the tank has swelled and i cant reseal it.
I have a lightech cap so I twist it open and a load of air comes out the tank. I figure it’s a build up of heat and air after a blat.
