959 Panigale's On Track

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by asif_15, Mar 8, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone

As some of you know I just picked up a 959 primarily to use on track as have a Scrambler for commute / road. Irrespective of the Pani you own can you let me know what changes you made specifically for track?

So far I have done small cosmetics like removed the rear pegs and put on an Evotech exhaust hanger, Rad protectors etc...with regard to mirror blanking plates and removing the rear number plate holder can you let me know whats available to put in place?

I am also going to order the track fairings but wanted to know if you guys had any major issues removing the nose cone etc.

Anyway looking forward to reading what you guys come up with!

    Asif

  2. Depends on your ability because the sky is the limit mate...

If you're novice or lower end of the inters I'd be inclined to leave it alone, maybe just get the suspension set up for you and maybe go for supercorsas or similar instead of the standard Rosso corsas...

If it's just a track bike.. track fairings, rear shock either ttx or ktech job, front internals, z04 pads in the front and upgrade the fluid, stomp or similar tank grips, and pro grip 717's for the handle bars. You could also change the steering damper although I never found it a problem on the smaller panigales personally.
You could change the gearing also.

  3. Ducati supply mirror blanking plates for ~£100 (they're also included in the DP fairing kit).

Are you ordering the Ducati Performance track fairings? They come with mirror blanking plates, also now come with all the bolts and lights/electrics blanking plugs.

The nose cone is easy to remove, just make sure you've removed all the bolts etc, and be careful not to break any of the tiny plastic prongs on the fairings.

    + Have fun

  5. I'm just in the process of getting my 1299 ready for this years track days as well.
I have bought the GB racing engine protectors, as they are quite reasonable price wise.
Also the Dp track fairing is the same as Oem fitment, so worth the investment just in case.
If you just need a guide at fairing removal check you tube for a few videos on the subject. Also ask for a copy of ISTR 692/00 for the fairing removal at your dealer and this will help you if you need to change screens etc

  6. I would change the rear shock as it makes a massive difference and fit a throttle spacer, makes it easier to keep the throttle consistent through the bends. Stompgrips as well maybe

  7. Get the DP fairings - cheaper than a lot of others and a perfect fit.

A bit of crash protection wouldn't hurt.

Leave the standard cans on...a few extra HP isn't worth the noise issues.

  8. Thanks for the info mate. At the moment I am probably middle ability of Inters group so starting to think about small mods. I have the stomps on already and track fairings on order so I guess it will be pads and then shocks in time. Much appreciated!

  9. I did not know the DP track fairings come with the blanking plates...thats useful thanks as was looking at buying separately!

  10. Yes agreed, the GB Racing stuff looks reasonable. Thanks for tip on your tube and ISTR!

  11. Yes I saw someone's vid on the throttle spacer and it looks like a good idea. Taking her on track for first time this weekend so am sure after that it will highlight the needs more!

  12. Thanks - yes DP Fairings on their way! Re the cans, I actually quite like them so unless I drop it and they need changing I am leaving it as is. As you say more important I get on track than noise concerns...

  13. If your after break clutch leavers have a look at the one from TWM as they are identical to the Dp ones at half the price ( got mine from BDS)

  14. Great tip - thanks!

  15. A set of tyre warmers and axle stands are also worthwhile investments.

Diamond warmers are British made and a reasonable price £175.
    Diamond Original Tyre Heaters

  16. Thanks - yes already have that stuff from previous track bikes! Cheers again

  17. Hi everyone

So I tracked the bike at Snetterton yesterday and must admit its a completely different animal to previous bikes - and I loved it!

You are all quite correct about the mods, the very first thing I noticed was the brakes were not that great. I am quite a late braker (or am used to this on previous bikes) and was having to brake quite early in fear that I would not slow down enough. Maybe it was over paranoia but defo think I will change the pads. In terms of buying things like Brembo Z04 pads are there places online you recommend?

Also other immediate mod will be the throttle spacer, I found the bike quite jerky when trying to maintain corner speed.

Suspension was ok for now and not essential for me

    Will get some GB Protection

Track fairings still undecided about...I love the red!

    Thanks again all

  18. Just get your DP fairings a couple hundred pound cheapo paint job and they'll be good. The red bike in my phots has exactly this, really close up it's nothing special but it's fine otherwise.

Panigale are a bit odd on the breaking thing. The narrow tank means you have to ride differently to other bikes to get stability during heavy breaking. You will probably find that after a few track days you'll suss out a more stable body position that cuts down the braking distance and gains you a lot of confidence. That said the brakes on the 1x99 bigger bikes are phenomenally good.

I get my pads from PDQ just because they are very reliable and quick to send out new ones. They sell a Bendix equivalent to the Brembo Z04 which works really well and is much cheaper.
