  1. HI All
I have acquired 600 pantah rolling chassis with 900 monster engine loosely fitted.
Any advice on completing the build gratefully received
    Thanks

  2. I'll be interested in how you get on with DVLA, we put an 800 in a 1000 chassis and after a year or so DVLA threw a hissy fit and said it had to be Q plated, which I haven't done, so it's off the road ( they wanted me to stamp out the frame number).

  3. First thing is to get the historic vehicle classification, once that's done I'm going to give them a call. Lots of modified bikes out there,Alan Millyards for example, his multi cylinder kawasakis. We will see

  4. I have a car with a different capacity and format than the engine it left the factory with and no issue with DVLA at all. Is this a recent change?

  5. Not sure, still have the letter, keep meaning to follow it up which I will now, thanks for kicking my ass into action

  6. I have always found it best to go with little steps with the DVLA, that the admin is comfortable with processing. Once they have made a decision such as Q plating, it is very difficult to get that reversed.

Maybe engine number change first, then after a suitable period of time inform them that the engine has had a capacity increase.

  7. The engine number prefix is ZDM904A2 then 005---, virtical cylinder stamped V2 and the horizontal V3, so its a 900SS engine?
Any issues fitting a horizontal head the the virtical cylinder? Just thinking about carbs and exhaust routes

  8. I think the 900ss and the 900 monster engines were very similar. The oil cooler mounted fromm different rocker covers, but that is an easy remedy.

The main issue is the Pantah had the carb behind the vertical cylinder, and the exhaust exiting in front. The monster/ss engine has the carb in front, exhaust exiting the rear of the vertical cylinder. I have no idea whether there is enough room to run the exhaust and carb of the monster engine in the Pantah frame and bodywork.

I believe there are people who have turned the vertical cylinder of a monster/900ss engine around when fitting to a replica f1 frame, but I have no idea what is involved in doing so.

  9. Looking more closely, the rear head has more cooling fins , so fitting a front head to the rear could produce overheating , so I will look at different route for the rear exhaust.
I believe the 900ss has bigger valves , so not quite the same .

  10. Anyone know the year of the engine please?

  12. So I now know the engine is a 900SS IE, as it will run on carbs, will I need the early style ignition pick ups? The one on the engine is a single 3 pin affair
    Getting complicated

  13. See my other response as this will fix this issue for you!
