Had my light converted to HID by Hump (Mike) from the forum, sat there waiting for the parcel to be returned and when it did wasn't too impressed when I discovered Parcelforce had cracked the Lens. Short of wrapping it in a duvet we couldn't have got any better packaging in there, it had air bag packaging, fragile tape and a box within a box surrounded by wrap So got some photo's together and Mike put in a claim...... Waited a week and a couple of days ago received a reply to say basically some items are exempt from compensation for damage, I would have been fine if it had been nicked but because it was a light it isn't covered. I have sent them a mail to enquire whether they have to show a duty of care to other peoples goods as my box was crushed, or do they knowingly treat all boxes as something that can be thrown around because they know they can quote their terms and conditions when they break or destroy Goods. Basically anything marked fragile means nothing as they wont pay if they break it anyway.
Make a nuisance of your self, threaten them with court action. I had a similar issue with FedEx and they paid up the £75 repair costs and transported the repaired goods FOC to my customer in Singapore when they broke a lens cover on a 1Gb laser link I sent out with them. They have a similar clause in their Ts and Cs but it's less hassle for them to pay up than prove it through the courts. But you do need to make it less hassle for them to pay up than ignore you.
some items are exempt from compensation from damage yep anything marked fragile ........ so if you sent a bomb in the post and it went of could you claim ?
I had to sell my linn record deck on ebay and parcelforce managed to not only break the perspex lid, but also bent the arm and actually smashed the two inch thick solid wooden base. All this when item wrapped in loads of bubble wrap, stuffed with polystryrene in strong cardboard box. Decided against using em again.
Royal mail is no better. They delivered a parcel that was to be signed for. They delivered it so someone I do not know, that someone made a bogus signature that is in essence OxO. I tried to claim they said they will not pay out as their paperwork states item was delivered to correct address and there is signature to prove it. When I sent them scan of my ID card proving my signature they said it does not matter no pay out. No point of using signed for it is worth shit. Their own mail man can fill in paperwork that he delivered, put XXX as signature and you lost.
if you're going to pay as Luca says just go for special delivery. I had the same thing with signed for, absolute waste of time.
I got paid out twice! Parcelforce dropkicked my package around the sorting office for a while before delivering it to the buyer. It was a valve record player, and I insisted the buyer collected in person, but she insisted I post it and would pay for it. I made her agree that she would have to accept the item even if it was damaged, but she tried to pull a trick on me and claim the item was not as described. Wanted her money back, but I said she couldn't have it til she returned the item. Guess what....Parcelforce kicked it round the yard again, totally destroying it this time. Seeing as the buyer had shafted me, I set about Parcelforce. As it turned out I was free to claim for both deliveries, so I made two claim applications, using the same photos each time, and they paid out on both. Result! Better still, ebay actually did their job and investigated the buyer, finding out she's a serial moaner who tries for refunds on everything she buys, so they paid the money back into my account. Great, got paid 3 times for that old record player, and I've still got it!
How do you know Parcelforce cracked the lens? If it was wrapped to the point it "couldn't have got any better packaging in there", then why is Parcelforce the villain here?
Never ever mark something Fragile, as you only need one Muppet to be having an off day. Worked in the parcel game for best part of 30 years. And nowadays all parcels end up in cages so expect the worst case scenario that it could have loads of other crap stacked high on top of it, sad thing is that there are some good concientious workers in the industry but the muppets always take the limelight.
Trouble is all the other companies are just as bad. DPD in particular are renowned for employing people with no sense of direction whatsoever and the inability to use either a satnav or a doorbell
IMO they definately are the villians, the damage to the light coincided with a dent in the box and where the air bag packaging had popped. The impact has come from above because of the way the lens is damaged looks exactly like a stone would impact a windscreen. The most irritating thing is I understand that they won't insure against everything fragile as it's too much of a risk, a great deal of stuff must get through untouched and perfectly ok, but surely they have some duty of care to ensure they at least try not to trash your stuff or do they figure they have blanket immunity cos of their terms and conditions to do whatever they like. Only claimed £150.00 ain't like asking for the earth.
