half way through senior tt on itv4 and parish hasn't mentioned the helicopter cutting corners because it cant keep up
I think you'll find the helicopter is quite a lot quicker than the bikes, but it's more a case of manoeuvring the aircraft to get the best shots. As a commercial helicopter pilot it's quite hard work staying focused on a fast moving target and at the same time keeping the camera man happy and the aircraft in a position where you can land it safely in the event of an engine failure or an emergency requiring a forced landing. A lot depends on the helicopter type as well.
Here is the spec for the camera copter, never comes close to the top speed of a moto GP bike. Performance Never exceed speed: 287 km/h (155 knots, 178 mph) Cruise speed: 245 km/h (132 knots, 152 mph)
I'm not a techy person, but if copter can cruise at 152mph and lap record is 133mph (ish) then would think it can keep up over-all well enough?
Remember there will be times where the pilot has to slow to manoeuver keeping the camera steady. Also following a bike doin 190 ish will leave him well behind.
The helicopter will be a comfortable 30 - 40 mph slower on the fast bits, it's not about averages, otherwise you wouldn't have the bike in shot half the time.
All most likely true tbf. Just re read the original post, which is totally fine, but also not sure of the relevance?? Agreed, the bike is faster than the helicopter. Then again, an raf interceptor is faster than a bike. And?? Just saying lol
...or, is that a piss take of the man as he is always saying that, in which case I do see the relevance!!
