Bit of a geeky thing I guess but I've got both the OEM and Ducati Performance (57mm full system) maps available for the 999S (5AM ECU) and was wondering which one I should start with as a baseline to then do a custom Power Commander tune. At this point most people are thinking "it doesn't matter, the PC3 tune will sort it out" BUT the Ducati Performance map also has ignition curve changes vs the OEM map. Here's a comparison of the DP ignition curve vs the OEM one: In fairness I only have the 54mm system but with a decat on the horizontal pipe, hence why I wanted a full custom PC3 tune. Question still remains, which ignition map should I go with ?
Get the PC111 map done on the DP map. Take a USB with you and ask the tuner to put the custom map file on to it for ‘safe keeping’. Invest in TuneECU for Android. Dump the DP map using TuneECU. Load the PC111 into TuneECU off your USB. Overlay the PC111 map onto the DP map using the tool to do this in TuneECU. Save this hybrid map. Upload the hybrid map to your IAW5AM ECU. Now remove the PC111. If you do not need the PC111 then sell it to pay for the custom tune.
That's the kind of lateral thinking I really like! Had no idea TuneECU could dump a PC map and then import it into a native ECU format. But I can still dump the PC3 map myself at home with a USB cable an the software, correct?
If I'd known that feature of TuneECU I would have kept my PC3 instead of getting a Microtec which has a quite steep learning curve / software interface for any tuner that knows the Dynojet software in their sleep.
It's for a 749R with 5AM ECU originally. I'll see if it's possible to export the spark and fuelmaps from the Microtec, perhaps put them in a SBK848EVO CORSE BIN that has quickshifter function aswell, as good as the Microtec then (with some minor wiring changes to the loom of course).
the 54mm race exhaust is a full system which came with the decat pipe for the horizontal cylinder so I am not sure what you mean by this. either way the 54mm and 57mm banana pipe exhausts have very different characteristics. Very little back pressure on the 54mm in comparison to the 57mm, in my experience: close the throttle and very little engine braking. The PC3 lets you run different maps for each cylinder so well worth getting your tuner to do that as it gives better results
I have the DP silencer (straight through - no cat) and a 54mm horizontal pipe with the cat removed: split, gutted and resoldered.
okay, so the exhausts available for the 749 were End can and de cat front pipe - asymmetrical 54mm Full system 57mm Full system 57mm full system banana pipe I have owned all of them and I am fairly sure the asymmetrical system isn’t 54mm on a 749. Was the 999 different? Could be wrong as I owned that exhaust back in 2006-2008. I wouldn’t recommend the 54mm system. What you have is better for road riding. the 54mm was more free revving but you lost a lot of engine braking and the torque band didn’t seem to be as broad. It was more peaky. Probably racers would get something out of it but it didn’t suit me. either way, it would be interesting to know if you can flash separate maps for vertical and horizontal cylinders back to the original ECU because it is absolutely worth it.
the stock system, whatever the diameter is, is asymmetric. There is also an OEM approved 54mm Termi system which is symmetrical. Not very common though.
