Hello chums... Mzy 749 has got a power commander 3 on it.. I've not done many miles on the bike at all but it runs a lil rough/hard to start and did so when my friend owned it. My mechanic says ditch it, shouldn't need it. Possibly more trouble than it's worth... So... is he right? Why would you fit one? And if I do ditch it who wants to by it! Great piece of kit!!
I had a PC III on my 748/853 and within the first 12 months it developed an intermitten fault causing the bike to cut out so I ditched it. The eprom it was piggy backing did a decent enough and reliable job all on it’s own in the end. Andy
My Monster had a PC3. It went wrong but it was nothing to do with the power commander. It ended up at Lougi Moto who sorted it out. When Richard bought the bike back to me he gave me the PC3 back detached from the bike. He had taken it off to make sure it was not causing any problems. He reckoned they were shit and it was better to re-chip the bike. Not sure that I agree but I never put it back on!
Try it with, and without. I have a PC3 on my T9S, I believe it gives better fuelling with my Storm Ti full system. If you have a non-standard system on yours, from memory you do, I would retain the PC3 as long as it isn't causing problems. You'll know if it is causing problems by comparing the bike with/without the PC3. If you have the standard system exhaust, you don't need the PC3. And they all cut out, usually when you have filtered to the head of a stationary queue. Cos they hate you.
exactly...the technology is there now to tune the cpu...why complicate it with an added bolt on.. i dont understand why anyone with project like this wouldn't get their bike set up properly on a dyno
Pretty much my thinking, just not clued up on these power commander thingies and wanted a lil confirmation..
there is a place for them but with a electronic ducati of that era you might as well just get the std cpu set up on a dyno... you could of course get a microtec m197........
I do like the sound of the microtec thing but I am trying to keep within some sort of budget!!!! At least for now....
Both my 749R’s originated from a certain Ducati dealer in the West Midlands. They both came with a PC111 and a beautiful blue and red crayon dyno readout showing wonderful rwbhp and torque figures. I think they favoured fitting these things to go with their tuning work in the mid noughties. They both run fine however I have had the super sport tuned trackbike remapped by CJS and one day may get my road bike done ther too. For Sale: Dynojet PC111....and maybe another one in a while...
