Photo Orientation

  1. I look at bikes a lot; eBay, social media et al and all the commercial advertisements have their bikes displayed with the right-hand side first.
Is this a media standard? Does it have a psychological effect?

  2. i think its because they are on the side stand and right side shows off better when leaning

  3. Side stand angle makes for a clearer picture
When you take photos which side do you prefer?

  4. It hadn’t crossed my mind. I photograph all elements, and publish a full-on side view as a principal image, but had not given thought to which orientation was best.
It would seem that a RHS view is conventional. I appreciate your comment about the side stand.

  5. Just don’t commit the ultimate faux pas of bike on paddock stand with side stand deployed…that really grinds my gears.

  6. Side stand is often on the opposite side to the silencers on bikes that have silencers on one side and that, for me, is the better looking side so maybe has something to do with that. The BMW R nineT has shotgun silencers on the same side as the side stand which looks kind of odd to me.

  7. Always the option of printing a mirror image, so it looks like the left side until you look more closely. Some bikes (BMW, Guzzi) you can hardly tell.

  8. So to be clear bike on paddock side stand up, are there any other rules that need to be followed in the ‘book of Ricky’?o_O

  9. Too many to list here.

Just be thankful you don’t live with me!

  10. How’s your cooking cleaning and ironing though?:D

  11. What's ironing?

I also have noticed the RHS thing and have seen a few ads where there are no shots at all of LHS. Here in NZ we do not have vehicle listings on ebay, we have TradeMe which is essentially the same thing but local. It has visible questions so anything you ask, ie, can we see lhs of bike, is visible to everyone. Also has the potential to turn into a mini forum with pissy comments etc.
    As an example…. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/classic-vintage/honda/listing/4046091306

  12. Something somebody else does as they don’t like to see creased clothing.:)

You used to have that option on eBay to make a Q&A public, not sure it’s an option these days but the seller controlled if it was public as it has been 4-5 years since I’ve sold anything on there.
