Pi@@ Poor Service - Breakdown Recovery

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by RobbyS, Jul 24, 2014.

  1. I have insurance with MCE and after stupidly not taking out breakdown recovery last year and having to stump up £250 to be recovered when the clutch spat it's dummy out, I made sure I had it when I renewed this year! After a fantastic 2 hour ride this evening and only 5 miles from home my 996 just died! Engine would start, just, but won't rev and just dies! Called MCE for recovery and when they said someone would be there within 60 mins was a little sceptical as it took 3 hours last time. An our later they called me to say the recovery firm had made a mistake and now couldn't get to me and the best they could do was another 2 hours!!! Needless to say I was more than miffed!

I was insistent that they send recovery not just roadside assistance... 2 hours later two herberts turn up in a car!!! Could not conceal my frustration and gave the recovery controller a more than an earful! Another hour later recovery turns up! Over 4 hours waiting when I could have pushed the fucker home I reckon in 2!

Will be sending a pointless email of complaint to MCE that no one will read!!

    Joy!

  2. I'd also send one to your mechanic

  3. Who do they sub it out to ? I use the RAC and have never waited 2 hours.

  4. I use RAC as I'm covered on the bikes, in the Lotus and in my crappy Modus and also in any car I'm travelling in, These cheap ones you get free are a bit daft, you can't even cancel them for a discount if your fully covered anyway which is criminal, or should be!
I think they use a network of local garages like Green Flag and others do so standard of service will be massively different.

  5. As above, if it costs an extra 20 quid on your insurance you'll get £10 worth of cover I'm affraid.

  6. I have AA home start cover with my bank account, used them twice, once at home and once out and about (cars both times, one of which because I put petrol in my diesel car and realised 10 litres in whilst filling). First time home start on the wife's car with flat battery, half hour, second time literally 10 minutes. Really excellent service

  7. It's like a lot of so called 'freebies' you get with insurance, they're not worth the paper they are written on!. It sounds about as useful as the 'free track day insurance' MCE offered me, where I was covered to do track days. When they told me about it I could hardly contain my excitement until they told me I'd have to pay an excess of 50% of the bikes insured value inorder to claim, ie £10K for a Panigale S. Again absolutely no f*****g use whatsoever!!

  8. Im with the AA and cant praise the service enough

  9. I am with the RAC and I am covered for any car or bike. Service varies, last time it was well under an hour but one time on a Saturday I waited about 2.5 hours and then had to be dragged off to a garage, well over 4 hours wasted.

A lot of these recovery companies will not pick you up until they have been out and "assessed" you and your problem, a complete waste of time. I feel your pain as hanging about for so long is just soul destroying.

Have you any idea what the problem is?

  10. I guess you do get what you pay for! They clearly only use a network of local firms as there are far more recovery companies around Milton Keynes, Luton etc. which are much nearer than the firm they used from High Wycombe! What was really annoying was that they originally told me is was a local company that would be with me in within 60 minutes, then 60 minutes later told me they were unable to attend, this was literally the second that a recovery vehicle from the local firm passed me as I was on the phone to the recovery control centre!!! They later admitted that the local firm could not deal with bikes!!

I think it is just pot luck, I have waited over 3 hours before to be recovered by the AA in my car a few years ago!

  11. I am just about to have a look at it! I have an idea it might be something to do with the fuel pump! After a bit of googling, seems possible, plus when I first switch on the ignition the short whizzing noise you get from the pump sounds a bit different! I did replace the fuel filter a couple of months ago!

  12. Fuel hose "popped off" inside the tank?

  13. The breakdown companies priorities calls. So a lone woman with children gets moved to the top of the list. Unfortunately a menacing looking hairy arsed biker is at the bottom and has to wait the longest.

  14. You were right!!! Simple fuel pipe had popped off inside tank! It was the pipe connected to the filter but not at the filter end strangely!

  15. I have been with MCE for a number of years and the last time i had to call out the recovery after an accident they were there in about an hour, took me home no problems

  16. MCE used RAC before that why the service was good. Maybe not so much now.

  17. I had cause to use the AA this year having joined them for the 1st time. Van arrived 1 hour later as promised. He never tried to start the bike check the fuel, nothing. They then arranged for a flat bed tow truck to arrive another hour later. He had no tools...honest and was scared he would damage the bike loading it. Off he went without my bike. Finally another hour later a contractor arrived for the AA with the same style tow truck and got me loaded and home after he got lost :) I complained and got 50% knocked off the cost of my cover. I've since been told that accident recovery is not in with the cover? Need to check my policy. The breakdown was due to a lose earth wire on the ecu. Grrrrr

  18. Im with the AA, who will send a van to you, but if it needs recovering, they sub it out to SOS recovery

  19. They will sub out to whoever is the local agent, or a AA flatbed
