Hello again, If you have seen my earlier post regarding the sump bolt. You shall be aware I’m undertaking an oil service. What fun it has been. From broken sump magnets to rounding of ally bolts holding the pickup gauze plat on (those things are made of butter). Anyhow, onto the final hurdle which is applying the liquid gasket. I have the recommend ThreeBond but my confusions is with the workshop manual. The pic. I attached shows the instructions of applying the bead, but what I don’t get is the second picture showing it spread out. Is that how your meant to apply it? Or is that showing how the sealant spreads out once the plate is tightened? So my question being, do I just apply the bead and tighten the plate to 10nm or do I apply the bead and spread it out and tighten. Also, do I need to allow it to cure? If so, at what stage and for how long So please, if anyone in the know can explain a little better. I’d appreciate it.
Hi - I recently did this and applied as shown in the first image and then spread out using my finger. I fitted and torqued up. In terms of curing - best to look at the sealant you're using as that will advise on the time required. It wasn't an issue for me as I did it as part of a major service over a week period so it had plenty of time to cure.
Just did that on mine but used Hylomar Blue. I spread it around the edge and mount holes of the plate. Let it cure for a minute, tightened a little then fully tightened by hand. No leaks!
