So after what seems a year since I ordered my new MTS 1200ABS, I pick up my bike from Moto Rapido tomorrow. In a cruel twist of fate, the weather looks total shite (ie cold and wet) and the heated grips that were part of the deal have not arrived in time and so will be fitted at the 600 mile service, when presumably it will be 25 degrees. I still intend to ride her all day and put on at least 250 miles. This is the first new Ducati I've ever bought and despite my excitement at being the proud owner of an unmolested £13k piece of Italian engineering excellence, I have had some mixed emotions over the past 8 days for the following reasons. This is a serious motorcycle for proper grown-ups. I might be 43 but I'm far from being a proper grown-up. Just ask my wife. I'm having to part-ex my gorgeous S2R1000. I've only had her 14 months and had got her looking mighty fine. In many ways, it's a perfect road bike. Looks the bollocks, has plenty of real-world grunt, handles well. She deffo won't be my last Monster though. But the Mutley is a scratch that I need to itch. I will need to have a couple of stiff whiskies to help me get off to sleep tonight and then ride down the River A34 for an hour to be at Moto Rapido by 10am. I want to be on the road by noon and then intend to just ride towards wherever it's raining less and then get back home by nightfall. I will take my camera and get some photos to put up on my first ride review, which should be hitting these pages at about 9pm tomorrow.
Just seen the weather forecast. Looks like I'll be heading for Wales. And of course it's Bank Holiday weekend so there hardly be any traffic.
It must be a 43 thing. I havent grown up either! i pick my first ducati up on Tuesday. Gone for the 1200 abs too, can't wait and I'm hoping my fears re reliability aren't realised. enjoy dukextc
Don't worry about reliability. All makes have their issues but only one puts "Ducati" on the tank. Forza ducati
