I'm curious from the MTS owners as to what options are considered best. I've some ideas which I'm about to finalise and as it's a PP, not a great deal but in particular, I'd like opinions on: Sat NAV bracket for a PP with the smaller screen, I'd prefer above the clocks as placement, I already have a Zumo 660 Is ventureshield really worth it? I'm a sceptic for the while bike. Tail tidy and panniers, which model and lights stop interference issues. Thx!
Ventureshield worth every penny, only takes one careless mount/dismount by you or pillion and its paid for its self,i have the 660 but it is mounted to the top clamp via the ducati mounting kit ie new top clamp ,the Rizoma tail tidy works with panniers,DP have released a new tt that looks fit for purpose, the older style DP carbon one looks great but the indicators are just dangerous.
I have Venturesheild on my white 2012 S and the paintwork is absolutely spotless, without it I couldn't say but it's not obvious when fitted professionally so I'd say its worth it. for a Tail tidy I do have a new German one that is hugely adjustable and I'm just fitting it to the bike this afternoon, not sure I can do the pannier test today but I can give some measurements etc lying flat and with a 7.5" x 6" plate I've got the width down to just 11" total from tip of turn signal to tip of turn signal (I've used oxford saturns for now) the tail tidy can be angled wherever you like and fixed in position but also each turn signal can have up to 8 different mounting points (depths) as you get 4 with the bracket fitted the right way but 4 flipping the bracket inwards thus giving you totally new distances to the edge of the plate.
Venture shield, absolutely worth it. I got a stone chip on the ride home from the dealers :-( It was fitted on my White 2010 and it's possible to see where stones have hit it if you look real close, but at least there ar no chips. My only regret is not doing the fork legs... Navihalter above the clocks. The nav is behind the PP screen. No idea on ail tidy, I don't have one.
I have, the 1290 SDR. Thing is that leaves me with no Ducati and a slightly Bavarian feel to the garage. I couldn't have that and my GS is a fantastic bike that isn't filling me with emotion when I ride it - it's just a tool. I want something I glance back at when I go to pay after filling up that can also handle touring and two up. So I'll have the KTM for social fun and maybe the odd light trip solo camping if I pack super light and the MTS PP for other things. Then I'll buy another bike. Still might keep my 749 as well. You can tell I'm divorced....
Option creep is setting in... So far I have already ordered myself the Navihalter German thing to place the Zumo above the clocks tucked in behind the screen. I've also had to order the Zumo cradle and cover as the GS fitting is bike specific. Then I've gone for R&G rad guards, frame and fork sliders. Heated grips, panniers with liner bags, Rizoma tail tidy with Rizoma LEDs as they fit with the panniers. Ventureshield the whole bike which I wasn't thinking but got persuaded. I already own a plate or I'd be selling a kidney for that as well.
Count, I had the r&g rad guard on my last bike, bu went for an evotech this time around. It is much better and almost the sae money. If you can change your order I would do so. We have the liner bags and they are good, but you can get more stuff in the panniers by not using them as they don't perfectly match the shape. We only use them for shorter trips, and a bin liner for longer ones There is also a company doing non OE bags at a lot less money, so might be worth doing a search. The other thing you might want to consider is the touring front mudguard rear part (I think the PP only has the sport brake hose holder), and possibly a fender extender for it too. Hope that helps
I've seen that, it's the Dolomites Peak graphics from the press launch. A kit with those graphics you could apply would be good. I'm looking for something to break up the band of white like this.
Yep, same here, just want to break up the white. I'm sure we can get them made up? Or are they available anywhere?
Wow, not my taste! I just got a little bit of sick in my mouth looking those 'graphics'… what are they thinking of? It looks like something from the early '90's?
I use a wrapping company in Dorking, they did some stuff for me on my GS I think they could make these up pretty easy and apply as well. The actual piece is pretty simply and they can print onto 3M wrap. I will make some enquiries and see what they can do. I think I'd lose the Dolomites Peak wording and just keep the peaks, makes it a pretty simply design that way.
Pretty much finalised the deal now. Pick up bike after March 1st so it's on a 14 plate. Might have a delay while the DVLA process me retaining the plate on the GS I'm trading in but hopefully they will be efficient. Not that many options as the PP comes with everything and two screens and two exhausts for a start. I've added as already said, the R&G rad guards and frame/fork sliders, heated grips, pannier/bags, Rizoma tail tidy with LED smaller lights so the panniers fit and that's pretty much it. A Navihalter and Zumo bracket are on their way. The whole bike armofended, venture shield or whatever and off we go. I'd like to decat the exhaust but might wait on the options AndyW is teasing. So a couple of weeks or so and I'll be one of the gang.
Anyone using the Navihalter mount and a 660 zumo on a 13 Pikes Peak with the short carbon screen? Pic would be appreciated. Cheers Jim
There was a PP pic on here with navihalter in situ. IIRC the screen covered the sat NAV no problem though it was set higher rather than lower. I'm happy to post pics once mine is done. I want the sat nav above the clocks and I'll probably only use the black smaller screen
Should add, I'm fine if the satnav is close to the top of the screen, wouldn't want it way over the top and I'd prefer to run the screen pretty low, I don't like big screen in the way so I'm minimalist by preference. I did a bit if googling before I ordered and think it will be OK. I didn't like the carbon look navihalter, instead I've ordered the plain black which I'll wrap myself in 3M carbon which is a satin finish and should pretty much match the bike and give some protection if it is exposed.
