1299 Pillion Pegs

  1. I’m trying to fit pillion pegs on the 1299 and I have removed the 2 bolts securing the heat shield but I for the life of me can’t remove the two spacers. I’ve tried levering the heat shield every which way and they just won’t clear what’s holding them in place.

Any tips or ideas, am I missing something?

  2. I got the 2 spacers out by levering down the heat shield as much as I could and using another screwdriver to push it out.

Problem now is I can’t get the pillion pegs in place, I’ve levered down as much as it will go and as much brute force as I’m willing to use and there’s no way it’s slipoing over the bit that sticks up.

Watching a video on YouTube the 2 spacers pretty much fall out for him and he then has to use a lever to allow clearance for the pegs to go in.

  4. Good luck with fitting who's the brave person to go on as pillion

  5. Got them on in the end up, what a farce. That’s pissed me off.

I took the missus out because we have a run planned tomorrow so she wanted to see what it was like first. She’s been out on my older bikes that were more better suited for pillions. I had visions of her being like “nah don’t like it”.....I think I’d have whooped her arse if she said that.

Anyway, all good, she likes it so fingers crossed for decent weather tomorrow.

Oh and it was one thing after another, after getting the pegs in place the 2 bolts that secure the rear of the pegs so nearer the arse end of the heat shield were proper stubborn to go in and the angle of them doesn’t give much room from the heat shield.

    Nightmare.

  6. The more times you fit them or remove them, the easier it gets. Note: I only fit mine in order to use them as lashing points when I trailer the bike.

  7. It won’t be a regular occurrence, at least I hope not. She better not get any ideas

  8. Fitted them once on mine... took the mrs for a ride once... never again she said.. so they came off and I fitted a full akra instead and didn't bother cutting the heat shield.
