1260 Pillion Seat Auto-eject!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Relentless, Sep 30, 2023.

  1. Set off from my place for a few days away in Wales with my better half and friends :)

First time with the bike fully pannier’d up, sun was shining…….heading past Cheltenham on a bit of dual carriageway and I hear “something has just flown off your bike!” over the mesh Sena comms.

Turned out it was my pillion seat that had decided to abandon ship

Cue me walking up and down a hard shoulder trying to locate said seat in the brush, ending up literally soaked in sweat and relishing the thought of the remaining 4 hours in the saddle ahead of us :joy:

After a few phone calls around Ducati dealership I couldn’t source a new one so £12 later at screwfix and I had it covered with polyehene sheet and masking tape. I then lashed my Krieger bag over the whole lot to keep it in place.

The latch seems to be moving properly and should have locked the sweat in place as normal so I’m a bit stumped as to why it detached

Has anyone else experienced the same?

  2. Always been quite secure. Need to give it a good push down to lock it into place though.

Sorry to hear that you couldn't find it.

I live in Cheltenham and have a spare seat* in my garage I could have leant you, you obvs wouldn't have known that though...

    * soz, not for sale as, if I ever sell my 1260, it will be returned to stock and the Touratech ones sold separately.

  3. Sorry to hear.
You haven't got "007" within your VIN number have you?

  4. @Bumpkin - I was surprised I couldn’t find it either!

The section of the A40 where it made a bid for freedom is literally like a jungle once you’re beyond the 2 foot of grass verge. It’s the first bit of dual carriageway you hit heading toward Cheltenham from Witney (section with the bridge over it).

I spotted a complete silver top box in the brush as well as, ironically, a front fairing side panel from a Multi 1260GT (carbon grey type paint). There were several tyres along with the usual fast food detritus of course

Totally agree on keeping the OEM bits too. I instantly thought to myself that I might grab the pillion touratech instead……and then realised I’d have to give it away with the bike which would be ridiculous : unamused:

Just shy of £200 from Ducati and I’m grateful it didn’t take anyone in the group I was with “out”, it’s a fair amount of mass to hit you at 70 MPH :scream:

All in all, not the worst outcome (beyond being VERY annoying!).
