Pitting/Stains on Exhaust

  1. Hi,

    Unfortunately had to ride the 749 through the cold and salty weather recently and have found that it has discoloured my once pristine pipes.

    Anybody have any recommendations for cleaning products/techniques to remove the pitting/discolouring?

  2. There was a guy on the old Ducatisti site that used some of these bags you put cooking grill thingys in, came up like brand new, couldnt beleive it.

  5. Honestly? Sureley I could just apply the solution directly onto the pipes (while protecting other surfaces)?

    Any other surefire products?

  9. I wish I had the time AL, but the 749 is my only commuting bike at the moment and it would take me a whole weekend to take off the pipes! Not very handy with the tools :( I just need a stop gap up until June when I'll have time to take it all off and sort out a new silencer too

  10. As Arquebus says dont put the ally in but standard pipes will be fine and yes it really does work !!!!!!!

  11. Its a motorbike and by its very nature it will get shitty so just leave it, you will only end up doing it again soon

    I've bought some Autosol anyway just so that I can have a go for piece of mind so in the future I know that the pitting isn't irreversible. Cheers

  13. If you try to clean them on the bike you won't get a good result as you will miss the hard to get to bits. I'd did mine in a day, that's taking them off, polishing and putting them back on so its not to bad. If you ride in the winter you could try covering them in Vaseline or something then in the spring just clean it off and no salt marks....

  14. Yep, I realised that when I did a quick test with some Autosol! I'll do it all when I core an exhaust.

    Next time round I'll get some ACF-50 and not ride it at all in the winter, I want it pristine for years to come. Cheers :upyeah:

  15. Just to let the masses know that ASDA do their own brand metal polish for a quid, and I have to say it appears to be as good as autosol at a fifth of the price.....just saying like...

ACF50 is very good, used it for years, I ride in all weathers and its does piss u off wen you see a better looking bike than yours...but I always have a smug grin to myself when I know that I have riding in shit conditions. Yes nice to have a show room condition bike but even better to have one that shows scars of every day riding. Bikes are made to be ridden. Keep it up
