Plans For Your Bike This Winter...

  1. with winter fast approaching what you doing? as for me, ill try to take some bits off, clean them, and put them back on again

having just had a full monty service done the bike wants for nothing but some minor cosmetic fettling...

does anyone cancel their insurance during the winter months?? i didnt know folks did this but its apparently quite common?!

whats good practice for winter storage apart from usual getting the tyres off the ground, turning it over regularly etc

  2. Change the oil before you lay the bike up so its sitting with clean oil in it. Give it a thorough clean (and dry) and lubricate chain and cables. Don't fire it unless you're actually going to ride it and get it up to full working temperature.
I always give mine a full ACF50 treatment. It's in a dry but unheated garage. Never had a problem with corrosion. I don't lift the tyres off the ground but I turn them occasionally and there's a piece of carpet under them so they're not on cold concrete. I'm not keen on optimiser battery chargers. I give mine a full charge on a regular charger about every three weeks.
Personally, I do try to ride mine a few times over the winter if there's cold, clear days with sunny weather and clean roads. It does me and the bike good.

Might be selling my Ducati in the spring. Don't want to but money is tight and I've got other two wheeled plans in the pipeline.
If I don't, I'd like to get the handlebars painted black to match the frame. They're a silver colour now which doesn't match anything else and i'd like to change the horrible white plastic fluid reservoirs.

  3. Thrash the arse off it at almeria in January

  4. might need to boff up on the acf50

im def going to get it out thought cant have it sat there teasing me

surely you have extra body organs to sell instead of the duke

  5. bstard

  6. Knoeing my luck it will probably blow up again. Only lasted half a day last time. Then I will spend all summer rebuilding it

  7. Usual deep clean and going to try and change my chain and sprockets if I can afford to. Want a little more stomp but can't put a 2 teeth bigger rear without getting a longer chain. Also I need to sort my DP tail tidy out as my indicators wobble around all other the place

  8. Too many miles on them and poorly maintained. Wouldn't get much for them.

  9. Build it.

I've spent some of this year riding round on a Pink Speed Triple (Hannah's) and I don't want to do the same again next year :)

I have 99% of an early 900 Monster in bits (inc engine) that I need to paint / powder and then build up. As it came to me in bits it will be a bit of a guessing game but I've picked up a 900ie lump that will do the honours for a few years until I can afford to build the original engine from scratch with a 944 kit I've got tucked away.

  10. Replacing the front brake pads :Wideyed:

  11. Top yoke, rear sets and a few other bits will get stripped and polished for re anodising.
Swing arm pivot, axle and rear hub out for re greasing. Oil & filter change and that's about it.

  16. Slipper clutch!!!! (May mean I stay on the track)

  17. Bettes how many times a week you dream about your bike?

  18. I'm planning on a suspension service by Maxton, maybe sort the gearing (bigger back sprocket, needs a longer chain), get the seat cowl resprayed and try and find a new front mudguard for the Monster, service / get serviced the 851 and ZZR, and ride the 1299 when its dry!

Oh, MOTs for three and tyres for the ZZR too!

  19. Takes a lot of work running 3 don't it!

  20. 1098R is going to be put to bed for the winter months and the Multistrada will, like previous years, be ridden unless there is snow on the ground. No matter how secure you make your bike, it remains vulnerable so mine are insured continuously throughout the year. Andy
