I’m getting pressured into buying a pool table for home. I don’t want an ugly thing with loads of metal showing. I don’t need a dining table top. Is it worth paying extra for slate over MDF (I guess so, but I don’t know). Size wise I’m thinking 6’ x 4’. What make is good? Where to buy? Anything else I should know?
Are pool tables ever slate? I have only ever played on pub tables except as a spotty youf at the Youth club. I bet with all the pub closures there’s some very cheap tables in a warehouse somewhere

You need to ensure your space is big enough, add 6ft (3 ft each side) as a minimum to each table dimension. There is nothing worse then not being able to get on a shot due to lack of room.
That was my experience when I had one, certain shots had to be taken with the short cue due to wall complications I don’t remember it having a slate base but it did double up as a dining table, of sorts. It was great fun holding drunk, late night tournaments.
Your wife might be put off the idea of a pool table if you tell her that we all want to come over when you have it set up!
