Poor Fitting Bolt Aftermarket Parts.

  1. Evening all,

Over the last couple of days I've been trying to fit a few bits of carbon bling to the 1098. I've put many performance/bolt on parts on previous bikes but never really gone down the carbon bling route. The bits that I bought was a key guard, front mudguard and rear hugger.

The front mudguard went on a treat but the other two where real pigs. The key guard isn't close to going on and the rear hugger I managed to persevere and get on after re-drilling the holes and a bit (a lot) of flexing it in place.

I have no previous in this stuff but is this the normal case? I was expecting it to just slot straight on and all line up with bolt holes to suit the bolts. Maybe this is the norm for aftermarket panel stuff?

Its not Ducati Performance stuff but at the same time its from a reputable company. Not going to mention names as I haven't had the chance to speak to them yet.

  2. In my expereience it should line up perfectly. If it's made for the bike there should be no excuse in my mind. Definately contact the business you bought from. Most will be happy to sort for you and understand customer service. If they treat you well you can add to this post saying how well xxxxx handled it. If not......

  3. I had a bit of carbon air scoop on one side that I had to elongate one of the holes by approx 10/15mm for it to fit properly I think it was made my Tyga (not 100% sure) for my GSXR but so far all the other carbon I have bought for my Duke has fitted fine.

  4. Most of the time I've had to drill out holes for carbon stuff, but for the most part its been okay.

  5. The company has been spot on so far and sent me out a new key guard to try. Can't say fairer than that. Hopefully this one will fit.

  6. Even Ducati Performance carbon is no guarantee for a good fit. I've got the key guard from DP and I've had to trim the edges so they don't rub on the tank anymore. Sadly I found this out after a longer ride, I now have to grooves in the paint on my tank.

  7. Hostyle, did you speak to your dealer about the problem? although I fitted a CDT key guard and it fitted perfectly, I was politely warned that if I had issues with the tank getting scratched or immobiliser not functioning I would not be covered by Ducati warranty, therefore, conversely, I would have thought you could take up the issue with your dealer as they are all original ducati parts?

  8. Ok Matt, you got me is it "mostly you drilled out, or mostly they fitted" :upyeah:

  9. Well I had to widen all the holes for my belly pan, but the rear hugger etc were fine

  10. The thing is that the DP one was replacing another key guard fitted by the previous owner that did exactly the same thing. With fitting the DP one, I had hoped that it would cover the marks made by the other one. It did, only to make (albeit a lot) smaller new ones. The marks aren't deep and pretty much out of sight, so I'm not making a fuss about it. My plans are to have to bike painted/wrapped at some point anyway as it has some other marks on the fairings to.
