Arrrrrghhhh! Seems that this is my time to hit a bunch of issues - following the [thankful] resolution to my leaking radiator. Last weekend I rode out to the Brecons and had a decent day of riding, but towards the end, I was giving it a bit of stick - and it kept cutting out. Third/fourth ~8-9k and it feels like I'm hitting the limiter, only there's nothing on the dash to indicate this - just hit a wall of power loss, then the revs drop down to 0 on the dash - no warning lights; everything else stays on the dash though. Coasted it to a stop and 'rebooted' it, it started fine and I rode on - wondering if it was just a one off, I did the same and it cut out again! Reset the riding modes back default, same issue. Rode in Urban mode, same issue. Disabled DTC, same issue. Riding down the A417 towards Cirencester, I was gently accelerating, but not wishing to get too shown up by cars, I slowly crept towards 100 - only for it to die around that speed. After getting off of the 417 and heading towards a 30 I decided to recreate the issue, as I coasted into the 30 with a non running bike I was 'revving' the throttle.... it got down to about 2-3k rpm and suddenly fired back up - I had the clutch out so it caught me off guard. I had recently fitted some cheap adjustable levers, and originally had some issues with the limiter cutting in at 8k, along with a lot of overrun when coming down in speed, with engine coasting - that was caused by the microswitch not being depressed by the new levers. I had planned to remove and cable tie the switch, but after being unable to fathom how it came out, my pushing it with a screwdriver seemed to have resolved that issue, and the new levers worked perfectly. With these levers being the only thing I had changed, I put the OEM ones back on, I could hear them hitting the switch - and hoped that this would solve the cutting out - but sadly, they didn't. The only other things done recently, was the belts by an independent, I am hanging onto the hope that they have either pinched the fuel line, or not fully pushed on the connector, at the rear of the tank - and that this cutting out is something to do with not enough fuel being supplied during the higher speeds... It's hard to know if it's running rough elsewhere in the rev range, as it's a Ducati, but if I had to think hard - I'd say there does seem to be a bit more lumpy action low down - maybe that's a sign of fuelling issues too? Anyway, thanks for reading my waft - if anyone has any tips on the issue, please do say. Many thanks
I cocked up and missed a part with fitting asv levers. It appeared to have stored a fault code even after I refitted the originals. After much slating of Ducati and my local dealer it turned out to be self inflicted. They needed to clear any codes even though it didn’t bring on a MIL light.
Thanks for the tip - though the OEM ones are back on now, and you can certainly hear it clicking the switch. I guess the only thing, might be the stored code you suggest.
Just a suggestion, but what about disconnecting the battery overnight? Not something I’d tried but all your symptoms are exactly the same as my cock up!!
Also have you noticed the red traction lamp flashing when you try and pull away? My bike thought it was being ridden with the clutch pulled in
Guess it's worth a punt - might clear anything lingering in the memory. The light only flashes when hitting the limiter, or with DTC set to 7 - then it kicks in when going over a manhole cover or pot hole.
Well, I took the tank off last night - hoping to find the fuel line pinched - but alas, nothing - my hopes of finding the connector not fully pushed onto the pump, were also dashed. Rode to work this morning, and in third at around 80-90, it hit this imaginary wall again - revs slowly dying off, but it does sound like the engine is running - revving the throttle seems to produce the faintest sound of a rev, and dropping gears will raise the revs - but it's almost like the throttle inputs aren't being recognised. I'm guessing this might be some sort of throttle sensor issue....?
mine had the throttle position sensor renewed as a " good will gesture" by Ducati even though it was a year out of warranty. It was a known fault on earlier bikes .
I took a punt it could be this, and managed to bag a new one for £74 - hopefully it's just a straight swap, and that is fixes the issue.
