1200 DVT Pops N Bangs

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by NSR500, Sep 11, 2020.

  1. Now and then when i downshift, close throttle i get a nice little pop through the exhaust, is it normal or is the exhaust valve sticking or jammed? Its not offensively loud but i can definitely hear it

  2. Normal and isn't it great to hear. Great sound effects in tunnels.

  6. Monster 1200 fitted with Delkevic can really pops! I don’t suppose anyone who hears it realises that a pensioner Is riding

  7. Normally the pops and bangs are created by the air being ignited on a hot piston crown which is why you normally hear them on a closed throttle as no fuel is being injected into the combustion chamber.

  8. I always thought it was small amounts of unburnt fuel/air mix getting out of the piston on compression at the point of the throttle being closed, a form of ignition retardation that aids engine braking but has a side effect that it happens so rapidly that it seeps past the exhaust valve at closure; a microsecond, mechanical cough as it were. But who cares, I get it on the KTM with accompanying shot of flame; the kids F**KINK love it! I do to, I suppose we are big kids at heart...
