Possible new 998 owner

  1. Going to look at an 02 998 today with 13700 on the clock she pretty standard except for termi exhausts and a rear ohlins shock , I'll have my 748s 10 years on 2nd of January but for the last few years I've fancied a red one

  2. Cool, take some pictures? is it one on eBay/Auto-Trader? I know there aren't so many around these days. The 998 has to be the fav in terms of classic shape, most up to date engine. Good Luck.

  3. I have a stunning one which I 'might' sell - half that mileage and available turned back to standard (with new body work which was bubble rapped from new) or full carbon and many special bits as it is at the moment - Giles rear sets, mag wheels, slipper clutch, full termi race system. And it's the proper colour - Yellow

  4. Sounds expensive

  5. Went and had a look phill and she look mint , it's an 02 998 13700 on the clock and he has it the last 7 years , needs tyres and I'm looking to spend some money on it i.e. Powder coat the wheels black carbon mudguards airbox and so on , he's looking for €5500 plus I'm gonna spend another €2000 on it or my other option is a 99 996 termi pipes single seat with 25000 on the clock ( I think ) for €3500 hmmmm which one

  6. BUY IT, I have an 998s Final Edition in my collection with only about 1200 miles on from new as it's my ( special one ) and hidden at the back of the garage so only comes out a few times a year although I always promise to use it more just never do.

  7. Personally I would get the 998.

  8. Cheers lads i am thinking about the 998 it has the 5 spoke wheels like my 748 which look better and it's a younger bike with less miles and is only a 20 minute drive away where as the 996 is about 3 1/2 hours away and it might not look good when I get to see it in the flesh and it has the 3 spoke wheels which I'd have to change , so maybe I'll head back over on Saturday for the 998 . I'll get a picture up of both bikes

  10. The 998, no question about it! Looks really clean and hasn't had rubbish stickers put all over it.

  11. The 998 every time and like Phil has said it's not covered in stickers which could be even hiding some other marks. The 998 is a much better bike and with more power. It's a lot harder to make a bike faster so why not buy the faster option to start with.

  12. That 998 is stunning, only in my dreams can I afford one of them,

so post some pictures for me to look at

  13. If I get her on Saturday I'll post up some better pictures

  14. Here's mine.
Carbon body work from new but the first owner kept the BP seat unit fitted as he needed a pillion seat. I have the new carbon single seat unit still new as well as the original brand new body work.
My thoughts were to put it back to standard as I have all the parts including wheels exhaust / ecu etc then sell the bike and the parts separate.

  15. I like your shiny black wheels Exige!

I've got carbon bodywork on my red one, but the last owner decided, for God only knows what reason, to drill bloody holes in the side fairings and put a pair of those frame mounted slide protector thingies on it! spoils the lines, so I might investigate the best way of filling a 10p piece sized whole in a carbon fairing before I get a new paint job....

  17. Very nice , they look so much better with the black wheels

  18. I hate it when people do that! Why ruin a carbon fairing panel to prevent it getting ruined!!!

  19. Thanks Dave , but mine aren't anywhere near as shiny as Exige's! ...mmmm... I can feel another thing to add to my ever lengthening list of To-Do's - powder coated wheels

I've made preliminary investigations on plugging holes in carbon bodywork a month back and I think it can be done with the right amount of care and dexterity - just not too sure what sort of a job I could make of it . The paint work on my nose cone and side panels has a few chips you might expect from an 18k miler 2002 bike - nothing huge but probably just enough justification I need to strip the bodywork off and get it all sent away to a professional paint shop at some stage...

  20. Not a clue really. Was thinking of putting it back to standard to sell, then move the expensive bits on separately. Or getting the carbon single seat sprayed (it's still bare) and then selling the standard parts. Don't know what's best to do. Or even if to sell it! I guess back to standard with the low mileage and it's new original body work back on it would be worth £6.5K less a bit for the new owner to have it serviced with new belts. As it is I'm, not sure - the extra's new would be circa £8k, probably sell for up to £3K separate second hand - no idea what it's worth as is but certainly not any where near + £3K which is why I was going to put it back to standard. Advice welcome, and opinions!
