Right guys, have the possibility of purchasing a rather sexy 1199s with Termis, full WSB paint, lots of carbon fibre etc. £15.5k, with £5k deposit only £114 a month over 3 year deal! My questions are: is there any reason why I should not buy this bike? It obviously has the electronic suspension but only comes with 3 month dealer warranty, my worry is if something goes wrong with the suspension? Also I will be tied into a PCP deal, anybody else on this kind of deal? drawbacks? it is the way I buy my wife's car so can't really see the problem with buying a bike on same kind of deal. I am trading one of my other bikes in for the deposit, don't really want to but see this as a chance to own what I consider one of the best bikes on the road. It is truly a sexy bike, I only went into the dealer to enquire about the when the 1299 would be available but this one took my eye. any thoughts greatly appreciated before I take the leap of faith....
The panigale is the only bike Id get rid of my RSV4 factory for....and the only reason I don't is cos I cant afford one...! That...is one lovely bike - there'll be literally nothing to do to it - (apart from a tune on a dyno - just planting the seed there).
Shtop Shtop, Im guessing that's a 2012 bike? (No cylinder cover) New 1299 is not much different on a PCP, I don't know how this shit works but surely you could put £5k down to bring own the monthly's a little. In 3 years time the 1299 should be worth more than a 6 year old 1199 Cash Price £16,830.00 Monthly Repayments £179.00 Min Deposit £4,209.30 Final Repayment £8,692.00 Total Amount of Credit £12,620.70 Total Amount Payable £19,345.30 Agreement Duration 37 Months Interest Rate (Fixed) 6.86% Initial Repayment £179.00 APR 7.9% APR
3 months warranty sounds pretty poor to me, there must a be a good reason for that from a dealer. Perhaps they now some thing you don't, may be its been used a lot on a track. I would give it a miss personally.
If its out of manufacturers warranty then 3 months warranty is all a dealer has to give. Buyer usually has the option to pay to extend that if he/she wants.
To a certain extent id rather have something that's done a little track time as it'll have been looked after...my own RSV4 factory has seen the track a couple of times and its fine... I will add to that that I think for most of the time, for us, as regular riders you do for most of the time have to "drive like miss daisy" as you cant just go break neck speed everywhere. Every year when we go to the TT one good run over the mountain, really loosens my engine up and quite noticeably as well. Why is it everyone wants to use a bike on the track but no one wants to buy one that's been on the track!!
yep 3 months warranty is only because manufacturers warranty has run out, originally went in to enquire about PCP on 1299 but this thing blew me away! Apparently never been near a track, but then the indicators and mirrors have been taken off so not sure meself (will be replaced at purchase). Been offered even better deal on 2012 fairly standard S now by another dealer, just waiting for figs for a 2014 S he has just taken in....decisions, decisions.
Suspension ECUs can have scary costs. I had mine replaced under warranty on my MTS and was told that list was over 600 quid. One of the things that swung it for me ordering a 2015 R is that it didn't have the electronic suspension. I know that I intend to be a keeper and didn't fancy costs like that outside of warranty as the bike gets older.
Waiting for the 1299 is a serious option yes, ECU and other costs for electronic suspension do scare me, balloon payment at end of term is £8789. The prospect of no warranty on such an expensive piece of kit does daunt me somewhat, hence the original thread. Pity they don't do a 899 EVO, that'd be something I would snap up straight way!
So your actually paying a little under £18k. Or if you hand it back you are paying £253pm after you lose your £5k deposit.
Yep that's PCPs for you, the theory is of course that I never actually hand it back but trade up to new/newer model 2 -3 years down the line (do this with wife's car, 3 year deal, trade on 2 years to get the right deal). I'm never going to be able to afford one of these beasts on a straight finance deal. Been offered a fairly standard 2012 S on similar deposit for £78 per month now, that's just silly!
I wish I could do something like that but I'm a tight git and can't bring myself to lose that much money. Its very irritating. I only bought the 996 as I managed to convince myself it made sound economic sense (please don't burst that bubble). I have PCP for my car but work pays for it. If your going to hand it back it might make more sense to use PCH as you don't pay VAT, but that might only be for new stuff.
