Hi all, Just noticed when switching modes from Touring to Urban or vice versa, the rear shock doesn't move. I thought Urban was the lowermost setting, so it should move down from the Touring setting ? Going from either to Sport or Enduro to Urban or Touring does cause the shock to adjust. Is this right or do I have a problem ? Cheers
Can't recall if Urban uses a different setting to touring tbh. It's most likely in the owners manual. If it's moving, then it's doubtful you have an issue. Could be that the settings have been altered within the modes? You can do a reset to all modes.
The preload setting is probably set the same for both touring and urban, I have urban at the lowest setting, just because it's comfortable.
I had Touring set to Medium, and Urban set to soft, so thought I'd hear the shock move. Better go and check again.
The shock will only move when the preload is different, the stiffness (soft, medium, hard etc.) doesn't affect the shock/spring length, that's compression/rebound.
OK, I'm confusing myself here.... wheres the rear pre-load adjustment in the menu ? Is it the single/or 2 rider / luggage or no luggage setting that adjusts the pre load ?
You need to go into the settings menu to access it, hold the down button, left bar, for around 5 seconds I think, go to DSS settings then the menu you want to alter, e.g. touring, sport.... you'll see rear preload is adjustable from 1-24 I think.
Ok I'll go look for that later. I don't tend to play with the menus as the bikes rides well for me, I can ride for months and never touch it. So when I do go looking around its a bit confusing. Old age for ya......
I think the touring mode as factory standard is fine for everyday use, only changes I've made are to sport and urban. Sport has rear preload wound up to 20, makes it turn quicker as effectively raises the rear. Urban has minimum rear preload and softest setting front and rear, it's like an armchair, perfect when you just want to cruise and take it easy, doesn't corner very well though
So I looked at the settings last night and there is no 1 to 24 setting i can see. The rear shock adjustment is offered as "softest" thru to "hardest" in 5 steps. Anyway I did a reset on the Urban mode, and now when I switch from Urban to Tour I can hear the rear shock move just a small amount. This all came about whilst I was setting the chain tension. I did it in Urban as per the book, but when I put the bike in Tour mode (where I ride 99% of the time) I thought the tension was bit to tight.
I think you were looking at the damping (compression & rebound) settings (5 settings, softest to hardest, can be applied separately to front & rear suspension) not the preload settings (for the rear sock only, front is manual adjustment) which offers steps 01 to 24. Changing the mode will change the rear preload as each mode has a different rear shock preload setting for each of the 4 load options (rider, rider+luggage, rider+pillion, rider+pillion+luggage). The best test is to change from Urban to Sport mode or in any mode change the load from rider to rider+pillion+luggage. There is a section in the Owner's manual on Customising the Ride Mode: DSS Suspension Setting, which can be downloaded in PDF form from the Ducati website. This is a polite way of saying RTFM
Finally got to play with the settings and found it ! RTFM..... I usually do but sometimes things don't seem clear when translated from Italian to English. Or maybe its just me
It becomes a lot clearer when you see it on the screen rather than the manual. If you want a great loafing machine just for soaking up miles comfortably, reduce everything to minimum in one setting, I use urban.
