I owned my 2010 Multi for two years and 20,000 + miles.....and like most of you, ended up trying all sorts of short & tall screens & spacers with varying degrees of little success ! ( and I now have Tinnitus !!) I now have the new BMW GS (sorry !!) and find the screen better than the Multi (old or new) but not perfect. I have been wearing a Schuberth C3 for the past four years in the belief that it is a very quiet helmet. Indeed, on my Monster 1100 it is very quiet in the clean air, however behind a screen I found it quite noisy, especially with the visor cracked or chin vent open.... I recently bought a Shoei Neotec and found that worse. ( I wanted the new C3 Pro, but Schuberth have changed their shape and they now don't fit me). SO....... Last Saturday I bought the brand new Shoei GT Air (very good review on Web Bike World) and WOW !!!!! finally an incredibly quiet helmet !!!! On my GS it makes almost no difference if the screen is up or down or the visor is cracked or chin vent open, it is incredibly quiet. It is also incredibly stable, you are not aware of any buffeting which I was getting with the C3 ( the helmet has a very sculptured, wind tunnel developed shape). I've ridden over 300 miles in it this weekend ( and it's been quite windy) and think it's a brilliant helmet (as is the bike, but I won't go there !!) Of course it doesn't have the convenience of a "flip front" which I'd prefer, but I'll suffer that for a quiet ride. So I just wanted to give you all a heads up on a possible cure for your noisy screens. Enjoy your Multi's, they're great bikes
Why not, it's got good ventilation, just without the noise. In fact it's much less stuffy than the C3 when the vents are closed because the chin curtain is mesh as opposed to impermeable. I also bought a white one as they are much cooler than dark colours in high summer.
An easier way than the one you suggest is to wear ear plugs. I have custom moulds plus a C3 Pro and i'm really happy with the results.
Another incorrect assumption I've worn both foam & custom earplugs for 25 years and if it were that easy, there wouldn't be the 100's of posts regarding screen noise. But hayho, I was only passing on some info that I thought might be helpful .......
With my new (2011, new to me) Multistrada, I find that I'm more sheltered but get "battered" about the head by wind gusts. If I hunch down 2 inches, it's better, but I jfeel like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Perhaps as I get older, I'll get shorter and that'll solve the problem?
Hi Rod, Any feel yet for the helmet as regards; Effectiveness of the vents' airflow (and if they can be completely closed for cold weather) Fogging Rain performance (visor seal) Depth of the sun visor (do you look through or under it when you glance down at the instruments) Also, how does the chin strap do up - some sites say Double D, others Microlock? Might be a bit early for some of these, but I'd appreciate your feedback...
Thanks Rod - looks like a pretty good bit of kit! Did it come with a D ring fastening or the Micro Ratchet?
Is the OP now riding a BMW and posting about how a specific helmet works on a GS on a Ducati forum? Why? A specific helmet on a specific person riding a specific bike (unrelated to this forum) is not very useful. Too many variables to say that this helmet will be good for another person on a different bike.
D ring I hope i'm not over selling this helmet, the are very personal things, but I'm very pleased with mine. I would recomend a white one as opposed to black (I had a gloss black helmet a few years ago and it nearly cooked my head on a trip to the Alps one Summer).
Hallelujah!!! I did merely mention that custom plugs had solved the issue for me but that was an incorrect assumption apparently
He's suggesting that the design of the helmet might work well with the MTS in an attempt to share potentially useful information that could help with an issue he experienced while an MTS owner. I for one appreciate him taking the time to post it up, and am interested to hear what the lid is like as I'm in the market to possibly get a new helmet myself. Why the hell everyone thinks it's appropriate to jump all over the guy just because he has moved on to a new bike baffles me!
Quite right TimOz, that why I said a "possible cure"............ I've owned many Ducati's, and put more miles on them than most.......... having had my Multi for 24,000 miles and knowing all about the screen problems that many have, I just though I would pass on a bit of information. Anyway, according to Ape2Duc the screen noise can be cured with earplugs & a C3Pro, so you're all sorted now  Enjoy your bikes, I had fun on mine.
According to you it can all be solved by a Shoei GT Air, so everyone rush out and buy one and your woes shall be solved!! Different bike, different rider, different helmet, different screen, different seat etc etc etc
FFS - the guy was trying to share information that might be useful to other forum users - based on his experience of riding 20K plus miles on an MTS. Now you, with your vast experience of Mutley ownership (remind me, how many miles have you done on yours?) have decided that not only is the guy's information of no interest to you, but you're going to show just how smart you are by highlighting differences that he pointed out in the first post! I'm un-subscribing from this thread Rod - thanks for trying to share information that might be interesting / helpful.
Cheers Steve, hope you and some others found the info helpful...... I'm just going out to ride my FANTASTIC, BETTER THAN A MULTISTRADA BMW now...........
