Anyone recommend a powder-coater near north London, for a frame? Needs to have a reasonable range of colours and be used to doing bikes.
I go here, happy enough, but i've never been anywhere else to compare the quality. Main reason I go here as it's 5 mins down the road and cheap. http://www.kustomkoating.co.uk/html/services.html
Trouble these days is "shot" blasting is an outdated term. "Media blasting" is more accurate as any decent company should vary the type of media it uses, based on the delicacy of the part's surface and the nature of it. This could involve the use of aluminium oxide, crushed glass, glass beads, walnut shells etc, each providing levels of harshness the media will remove the paint or corrosion from the part with. For castings such as crankcases, there is always soda-blasting as this does not carry the risk of fine particles of media being lodged in an oilway or gallery deep inside the casting, only to emerge later and wreak havoc with your engine.
Ta Creamers! if you can stand their really annoying gallery website and the gopping BMW wheels in it, they do have some bike frames. (Although you can't see any detail). I would suspect (hope?) that they have just put "shot blasting" up as a generic term, but yes, I'd not want my GPz shot-blasted...
They had a couple of bike frames in there last time i was down. I guess a phone call will find out if it's "shot" or not.........
If you are happy to consign your frame to a courier, Steve Turner at TPCS (http://tpcs-magnesium-refurbs.co.uk/) is IMO one of the best around. Problem for you is he's in Melksham, Wiltshire. He is best known for his wheels but does anything motorcycle related and offers a wet paint option for those hard to match colours. Andy
