Evening all. I'm really happy with my V4S but have one issue - the width and height of the stock handlebars. They must be the widest set of bars I've come across, and are set just a fraction too high. Nothing major, but it irritates after a long ride. I've read that the V4 PP has slightly narrower/lower bars - is this true? If anyone has ridden both the V4S and PP back-to-back, is there a noticeable difference? I understand that the riding position on the Pikes Peak is going to be a little different to the V4S (the pegs are higher/further back, I understand) but if anyone can comment on the bars I'd be really grateful. Standard V4S bars are just under £100 - I'd imagine that the PP handlebars will not be much more. Not cheap, but I'd consider it for something that might change the riding position to work a bit better for me. Thanks in advance for your help.
I've felt the same. The stnd bars are a bit too wide. There is already a thread on this here. PP bars are £94 so i was told.
That’s really useful - many thanks! I’ll try and track down the thread on this forum - no point in reinventing the proverbial… I may well give it a go. The switchgear, master cylinders, etc on the V4S look similar (if not the same) as the stuff on a PP. Thanks again!
I thought about this in my early days with the V4S. I appear to have got used to it after 9 months and 5500 miles. I need to make sure I don't pi55 around too much with the bike ;-)
Point taken - like you I'm getting used to the riding position as the miles roll on. But if I can change that positively with a new pair of bars then I think it has to be worth it. If I pull the pin I'll post some pictures on here.
I think this may be the US thread that Duke was talking about... https://www.ducati.ms/threads/relaxing-pp-ergos.740054/ For the discussion on here go to the Pikes Peak V4 thread.
I agree with you about the V4 rider positioning, after 10 years on V twin Multi's I was surprised to get some right arm tingles and shoulder aches on the V4. I thought it could be high speed vibration from the V4 motor and the different seat / bar positioning. I decided to leave it and see what happened and after a few months and 4k miles I must have adapted to the position and it is now easy to do 400m days with no issues at all.
I asked JHP to order me some PP bars for my V4S. Ordered on Monday arrived in Coventry today. First class service. As soon as they are fitted, I will update you on the differences.
Many thanks! We can compare notes. I’ve also ordered the PP bars. Arrive on on 2 April. I’ll be really interested in what you think
The Pikes Peak bars are now fitted. Went on a long run over the weekend and can only say that they work for me. Slightly lower and narrower - small differences but personally I feel happier on the bike. Still relatively upright with wide arms, but control feels better. Probably all psychosomatic to justify spending a hundred quid, but works for me! Forgot to take any ‘before’ pix so not sure if a photo of it in its current state will help, but will do if anyone’s interested.
Good news, if it is psychosomatic it will be no less worth it. I set up my previous bikes to take weight off my back and onto my wrists. i did have concerns about the Multi putting too much through the back. I did a long run to Scotland last year and had none of the usual aches I had with the ST's (St4s and ST 1050)
This is something I'm planning to do when I get my V4, so any tips on fitting the PP bars would be useful.
I'm afraid to say that I didn't fit mine. The bike was in at the dealership to have the recall work done (centre stand, software update, etc) so I got them to fit them for me along with a few other bits. Advice from the mechanic was that it was really straightforward - just take your time. The PP bars don't have two mounting positions marked on them (like the standard V4S bars do) so it should be easy enough to get them correctly aligned. Sorry I can't be of more help.
I’ve just fitted the PP bars to my V4S today… definitely helps canter forward more on to wrists and waist to load up the front better imho… feels a bit more like my previous 1200DVT. It took me a while to identify how to remove the black plastic retaining clips for the left and right control units. Rest was straightforward… just mind the micro switches on the underside of the levers when removing them from the old bar… super fragile and susceptible to damage.
Would you say the new PP bars are narrower than the bars on the DVT ?? I get pain in my shoulder after a few hours riding and a friend explained how it could be how wide the bars are and now if I ride with elbows in to my body it definitely helps but doesn't feel as natural
Sorry is this reply to me ?? and to clarify .... im asking if they are shorter compared to DVT handle bars
