Pr4 Tyre Test - Wet Performance

  1. From the Donington day yesterday, mate following on his wet-clad 996 for a few laps, on PR4s. Bet AndyB would have had his knee down, being so tall...if he wasn't in the pit ;)

Point is, in the heavy wet you can ride like this, only areas I had any issues were slower corners a few slides, the front was good enough for heavy braking and the ABS engaging because it was lifting the rear rather than sliding, the DTC didn't come in except exit to Goddards over the white lines though it may have done but I was elsewhere concentrating!

It then dried out and although I didn't use all the tyres up, in fact less than I do on the road, because of camber and riding harder so moving around I was easily dragging my toes in most corners.

For me, these tyres are highly recommended

  2. Tyres' water clearing abilities generally work alot better in heavy rain offering decent grip as they evacuate standing water.

The most dangerous and least amount of unpredictable grip occurs when the surface is just damp, and tarmac oils are released but not washed away.

  3. there was very little actual rain really, fine drizzle, and afternoon sessions had damp patches and damp patches where this has wet patches and standing water. Confidence inspiring

and this is Doningtion remember, and everyone knows its covered in aviation fuel so slippery ;) lol

  4. nice video

  5. Well the rear is now close to the limit. They have done just over 5k, two trackdays (one wet and one dry) some touring and fastish road riding. Ragged on the edges front and rear and still feel neutral even with the middle pretty much gone.

Front still has some life so will be just a rear. Mega tyres, highly recommended

  10. You need a few days on the n260 Spanish Pyrenees that's your sort of road , had to laugh bend sign says bends for 37 km then another for 23 km and it really is bend after bend
I got caught at top of a mountain thunderstorm , lightning etc then had heavy rain for 150 kms back to digs so yeah was well pleased with the tyres

  11. How do you think they'd be on a race bike bradders?

  12. As an intermediate? Very good, for when its damp not lots of puddles, too dry for wets and too wet for power one or corsas, they wont compete with wets and reckon more power/lean angle os sports bikes would see the drip fall off in the dry

  13. Just put the wheels back on. Not tested yet but they are a very different profile to the Angel GT's i took off.

  14. That's what I will be fitting on the Multi when the tine comes. I'm sure it was PR4s I had on the K1300S after the conti road attacks, which were great but only lasted 1800 miles.

  15. 5k and now the rear needs changing, I'll take that

  16. Quite surprised the only doing 5k though, and less it seems in other cases, I have heard a few say that the PR4s are doing less miles than the 3's on the same bike. I have 4s on my Mutley, I had 3's on my K1300R that did 7k with plenty thread left before I sold it. I agree a great Tyre. My DUC dealer only recommends them now on the Mutley

  17. I get thru tyres a bit quicker, I can be a little hard on them, lots of hard acceleration etc

  18. I suspect i will only just get 5k miles from the Angel GT's yet others have got more. I seem also to be very hard on my tyres.

  19. Got back on Thursday from an epic trip on the Multi to see Rossi win at Misano.

The PR4's have stood up to the task exceptionally well. They have worn 1mm front and rear in 2600 miles and not squared off despite some big motorway miles.

However, i must confess in the twisty roads of the Black Forest i would have preferred the feel of the Angel GT's. I just didn't get the same feedback from the Michelins.

Debating whether to take them off and sell them or keep them on over winter.
