848 Pre Filter

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by bettes, Mar 11, 2015.

  1. hi all. Pulled the pre filter out this aft while doing the oil change. I suspect this was the first time it's been done as the standard shite bolts still looked unmarked. Bike's done 14,000 miles and TBH I think the filter has done it's job by stopping this lot from floating about through the engine. Does it seem like a lot of steel for the mileage? Put new O rings on and some gasket sealant around the plate.

    Thanks, Ian

  2. Well this was mine when engine started vibrating and it had picked up on shell bearings...

  3. F@&k me, that's some shite on there! What mileage was that at?

    Cheers, ian

  4. Is that from the flash or something, but is that bronze in with that lot?

  5. And what was the outcome?

  6. Yes the shell bearings are like a bronze colour so it looked like if be panning for gold:)
It was at about 10k, it was like a tight link in the chain, a strange vibe through bike and pegs but ran fine so to speak.
Ended up with new crank as goodwill from Ducati but I paid for rest, so whilst apart put all new bearings through out and now it's sweet as.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. This is my only real concern with my 1098 - I've read a few horror stories about 1098 main bearings.
I'm going to be pulling the gauze filter out soon as part of its service. Hope there's no bronze bits in there.
