Hello all, I’m trying to get my base model 2015 dvt back to standard / default preload settings, I’ve only turned the plastic knob clockwise for when I’ve carried a pillion to stiffen the rear spring But I don’t understand the manual, it doesn’t give any ‘how many clicks’ info, only a measurement to return back to standard, but I don’t understand what the measurement is referring to Can someone please explain Many thanks Steve
Not sure the pre load knob (2) has clicks. If you rotate fully clockwise and then count the number of full turns anticlockwise from fully closed to fully open, you might find that 1 x 360 degree turn equates to 1 mm of preload. It might be 2mm or 3mm per turn but from the book it looks like you have 25mm of preload adjustment. Just divide 25 by the number if turns you counted, then make the turns equal to 18mm out from fully closed. Andy
I always thought that preload was adjusted at the other end of the spring , by using a C-wrench to turn the large ring-nut ( it's got notches in ) . The two adjusters shown in your manual are for setting compression and rebound , surely ? .... could be completely wrong of course !
Well that's definitely a big improvement over the older method of adjusting the rear preload ..... The C - wrench in the bike's toolkit was utterly crap , in several different ways ..... 1] The hooky bit was a very poor match for the notches on the big ring nut 2] The radius on the tool was too tight for the ring nut 3] it's far too short ..... very hard to apply the right force , without skinning knuckles ( or worse ! ) ..... good work on that one Ducati ....... ?
As far as I’m aware, the C-spanner in the minimalist tool kit is only for adjusting chain tension by rotating the rear hub on the SSSA which is probably why it doesn’t fit the rear shock absorber. Andy
And there should be a box section bit of tubing that fits over the handle to extend it and thus permit more leverage.
Your text above makes sense. BTW, the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak pre-load knob does not have any clicks. The maximum number of turns (on mine) from fully open to closed is 17.
