Private Plates..

  1. I often keep an eye out for anything relevant. If anyone is interested, reg transfers currently have M60 DUK for £157 plus VAT and fees (£268.40 in total)

If you have a 94 M reg onwards 600 monster it could be quite neat.

  2. I was offered V666DUC for free a few years back but I thought about it too long and missed it.

  3. Just a bit of advice chaps - most cherished number dealers don't actually own the numbers they offer for sale - many are on consignment from the punters who currently own them but a hell of a lot are just DVLA owned so always worth looking on the official website punching in the plate you've seen advertised? I've saved hundreds by checking first

  4. I purchased TH15 TRE through regtransfers.co.uk - the price was well worth the service, by the time I had received the physical plate the number had already been put on to the bike. 48 hours was bloody good going in my opinion, and there was very little difference with the DVLA price. I have seen some which were way cheaper direct though..

Obviously it was DVLA who did the transfer, but I'm guessing regtransfers have contacts there, I'm not used to them moving that quickly!

  5. Ironically I've been looking the last two days, I don't understand the whole process. Need to look into it more.

I've found one I like but there are better ones for more money obviously. Although I should not spend any money right now due to other commitments. After this year I will have more disposable income.. assuming I can stop my track based activities.

  6. I was pretty much in the same boat. As I was looking for a new issue number (never previously assigned to a vehicle) I knew I needed to reference back to DVLA, but the process with regtransfers seemed the most simple. It was a little easier as the bike was too new for an MOT, but it was a five minute phone call, sent my reg document to them there and then first class, the day after they received it the plate arrived. (They must have posted the plate within hours of receiving the V5C. Out of curiosity I did a vehicle check and found the details were already on the new number. The phone call to reg transfers was on the Tuesday, everything was finished and done by Thursday and the plate arrived Friday morning, with the new V5C on the Saturday.

  7. The transfer process used to be a proper drawn out drama with over complicated paperwork that you could easily get wrong! Easy same day service nowadays as all done on line

  8. Cool, I'll look towards DVLA next time I buy a plate. My fear was that it would be a long drawn out process, and the website wasn't much help either.

  9. I've just looked - if you're up for it, 900SS is up for auction some time in the future... Perfect for someone.

  16. Purchased 2 x plates from the DVLA within the last two months, process is very simple.

Pick your plate, register on the website and complete the transaction. When your new reg certificate arrives you can then assign the reg to your vehicle and put your plate on immediately, it's that simple!

One thing to make note of though is, if you are purchasing the registration for a vehicle which has someone else as the registered keeper (i.e wife/son/daughter) you must state this when completing your purchase as the plate can only be applied to a vehicle in the that is registered to either the plate owner or the named nominee!

    Ben.

  18. hahaha - you better hope not! - Poland and Lithuania is full of stolen top of the range motorcycles at the mo

  19. I bought one that cost £50 in 2000 for my car.....

It spelled my name backwards so you could see it in a rear view mirror..........looked odd from a direct view though.

Having changed my car I couldn't be bothered with all the palaver to transfer or retain it..........

.....and it wouldn't work on the bike because it was broken into two rows and pointless on the rear anyway.

Besides, my SS is *748 ***, which I suppose is OK on a 750.

  20. I had a 3 car police stop on my XR4x4i many years ago after correctly following procedure.
Waiting for 3 hours in Wimbledon, doing the paperwork. Showing the girl both plates....getting told off as the old one should have still been on the car (parked in the Rail station car park).
Got my MOT, Tax disk stamped and copy of the old reg, with a special stamp and notes showing the transfer.
Went back to the car fitted my new vanity plates and headed home towards Staines.

On the way home a cop car noticed me and started following, since I was heading past the Nick on the way to the pub I didn't think much of it until two more went past and dropped on the anchors. 5 of the 6 coppers didn't believe me, despite the paperwork.:(
Luckily the 6th and the guy on the radio explained that it could take up to 2 weeks to show up. :Banghead:
Bit of excitement for the night and no ticket...makes a change.:Angelic:
