Just wanted to give due thanks and respect to Pete at ProTwins. I have an old 5 spring Ducabike slipper clutch in my 1098s and the spider spring has gone - again! I told Pete what I had late yesterday and he's just called to say he's got the part en route and will send on when it arrives - All off 1 phone call from a bloke (me) he'd never spoken to. He said if I'm ever in the area to pop down and if I ever need technical bike advise, to give him a call. Top service.
Ah, that’s disappointing. When I read the title I thought it was going to be about a completely different kind of experience.
Pete is excellent. Only really pop into Pro Twins now and again, last service a few years ago. Rode there late on a Saturday a month or so ago. He was out the front chatting to another customer about their bike. He remembered my name and the bike. (Haven’t seen him since pre Covid so a few years) I mentioned about a belt service, given a rough price there and then. I said about an oil change possibly and he said ‘if I doesn’t need doing don’t pay for it to be done’ No hard sell just a friendly warm welcome. As a result I’ll always take my bike there and spend my money with them.
I pop in now and again but not that often, but if I do I make sure its Pete and not the other guy (forgot his name). The 'other guy' is who put me off the place to begin with over 20yrs ago. Made me wait for an age unecessarily and was ruder and condescending as it could get. Like he was doing me a favour just talking to me. That was after the 1st service with my 916 when I 1st got it. No problem with the bike service itself, it was something trivial afterwards when i popped in for some part. I cant recall tbh. Since then Ive gone to Snells for all my servicing, spares and bike purchases. I'm very thick skinned and forgiving, but that guy fucked me right off. I saw him in my dentist once and I hoped it hurt.
I’d have told him in no uncertain terms that his wank attitude lost him a customer, then turned on my heels. Either way you voted with your feet. I used to get that a lot in music shops when I first started playing bass about 30 years ago. Then I found the Bass Centre in Wapping (since moved then since closed) and didn’t buy anything anywhere else.
I'm not a rude fellow often. I tend to just keep it to myself and never go back. I didnt need to tell him he lost a customer. He wouldnt care, thats his problem. Pete's nice enough though. But the other guy is hurting his own business unecessarily. I wont even take my wheels there to get tyres fitted. I go to Watlings in Reigate instead.
I’ve nothing but praise for all the Protwins team. Great advise and test rides from Brett, free set up advise from Rob. Excellent service from Pete in spares and Malcolm is a top technician. There are more local Ducati dealers to me but I will keep going back, they all remember my name & bike (or make the effort to pretend they do).
My only odd recent experience was when I went to book my multi in for an annual service, agreed on a Tuesday and then when I said about pick up he said ‘end of the week?’ I said I’d rather pick it up the same day, so he had to change the date which was just weird to me
In all due respect, maybe some people do have attitude on a particular day day we all do. No doubt some of us go in with an attitude and wonder why we get the reaction back shit happens. I can say attitude or not there help efficiently knowledge and workmanship is quality. If you really want shit attitude try inmoto, service department can’t be arsed, look through into the workshop it’s like a fkn scrapyard, try and part ex my 2020 aprillia with them bought from new from them with 3000 miles, for a hypermotard £4000 more. Because I changed the oil and filter myself due to covid at 450 miles no mate it hasn’t got service history, talk about just sell and don’t give a fuck. In comparison pro twins are top draw, really do rate and recommend them sorry to slag of bike shops but inmoto are a joke
I haven't been to Pro Twins in years, although 20 years ago I was a regular to them and before them the non-associated company that shall not be mentioned. Pete and Rob were always great to deal with, the other guy with the attitude was always that way. I tended to stay clear of him when I popped in, I went there to buy nice expensive shiny stuff and not get irritated by an opinionated a%%% when I handed my money over to them.
