Probably The Best Heated Grip Question Ever !

  1. So to repair the heated grips on my 2014 Twin spark without emptying my wallet with Ducati heated grips I followed @GeorgeO lead and replaced the one that wasn't working with a cheap element off ebay, probably from China, and plumbed into the Ducati wiring. That got them working again using the starter button, tho not outstandingly hot .

Now on this topic I've read how very hot they can get and also how they need a Ducati franchise to reset something to get them working properly after they have been replaced.

My question is, even tho mine are working and it has one none Ducati element do they still need to be reset to access proper heating performance?

    Thanks in advance

  2. So let me get this right, currently you have one Ducati heater which is a kin to boiling lava and a cheap Chinese Ebay one that’s a kin to tepid piss?
So you can leave it on Min and have one toasty warm hand and one Luke warm or on Max and have one warm hand and the other scalded like you’ve glimpsed inside the arch of the covenant :joy:

    I’m not helping am I?

  3. @Ackers Not quite.

I've read on other threads that the heated grips can be very warm.

Mine however, both of them, are low to moderately warm. I assume because they are in series that this is the reason they both perform the same .

I'm trying to find out why a Ducati dealership reset is required for new heated grips and if my heated grips need to be reset and if that would give better performance.

  4. No. The 'reset' is actually only to activate the button option in the software after the hardware is installed. Once active, the heating is ultimately determined by the Canbus system's electrical feed and what it allows in terms of current draw. The 'button' activates a low, med and high setting which must vary the current

I have heard multiple times that the oem ones are also pretty low heat. The best solution in all reality will be using some Oxford grips and plumbing them into the existing feed - they are known to be warm enough.

  5. I think that might be the case for the ‘15> DVT model but my ‘13 twinspark ones are nuclear! Mover had them on higher than min, tried max when I test rode the bike in Dec and they melted my gloves! :joy:
