Proper Sport at Wembley

  1. Tomorrow, along with my lad, I'll be one of the hoards descending from the backwaters of the M62 corridor to enjoy the boosh-fest at Wembley (become a second home to us Wire lately). Means a 10hr round coach trip but hey, sure we'll find a way to pass the time (beer anyone?)

Anyone else going? Any Rhinos fans on here?..... as with most Rugby League occasions, it's not just enjoyed by the supporters of the two clubs playing, but also by 10,000's of supporters of other clubs who simply enjoy watching a game where sportmanship and endeavour are still cherished.

It's one of the few games still shown by the Beeb, so if it's too wet to ride your bike (probably will be) and you fancy a break from watching those over-hyped egotistical tarts of the round ball game arguing with every decision and collapsing in a heap if anyone dares to touch their shirt or ruffle their hair, then have a watch at 2:30pm tomorrow.

ps - Missus isn't going - I've bought her tickets to see Adam Ant 'n his mob instead - no taste that woman

  4. I suppose you had a good time littlebert!

It caused murder at work because a load of pie eaters went sick all of a sudden on Challenge Cup/Bank Holiday Weekend. By coincidence obviously. I missed the game, for the first time in years, because I had to cover for the selfish twats.

  5. Big Up The Mighty Wire ....... Saw plenty of Saints/Pie-eaters at the game - obviously there to see how it's done properly :upyeah:..... and I'm sure we'll see the pie eaters at Old Trafford later in the year......That freak downpour early on was caused by a group of Tigers fans near us dressed as Red Indians who did a rain dance at kick-off!

One of the funniest parts of watching RL is the reactions of stewards at what are primarily footy stadiums. They're always totally bemused by the atmosphere/noise generated by the fans, and are stunned by how fans of both teams (and many even from teams that aren't playing, but are there to appreciate watching a good game) are happily sat together. Lost count of the number of Leeds fans in the Wire end of the ground, and the handshakes/good wishes to each other afterwards is all part & parcel of the game!

Journey home took ages (nearly 6 hrs) but got home to find a very happy missus who got back from reliving her youth just before us, having danced 30 years off her personality :upyeah: Her feet/legs/back are reminding her of her real age this morning though!!!

Rob - My lad plays for Crosfields, where Steve Pickersgill is a coach, and talking with him, a lot of what he learnt/Paul Cullen did 5 years ago at Wire is definitely getting transferred to Widnes backroom ..... added to Bett's knowledge, I'm expecting those derbies to get a lot more competitive in the next few years!
