Pulled The Head Off It!

  1. 15 minute job to do an oil change and the sump plug head snap off torque set at 35NM! Could feel some wasn’t right so stopped going tighter 5E110DAD-EDED-4BD8-B3E8-A0BD1B1BE52E.jpeg
     
  2. 35NM for a sump plug is quite high. Are you sure that figure is correct?
    A panigale is 14nm for example.

  3. Panigale is only 14Nm as Glen says. Old school 996 etc were 43mm, but a much bigger plug. That plug looks like a1098 maybe? They're 19Nm.
    Either way, Pani' or 1098 if you hit 35Nm on that plug, then check your sump for cracks. Panigale especially split the casting when over tightened.

  5. New plug fitted tightened to the correct specification, filled with oil and brought up a temperature with no problems thanks for the help,
