I am currently bike less and looking at various bikes , and one of those choices is a 1199s, just after the advice of people that own or have owned a 1199s, on the good and bad points of owning one. Thanks Dave.
Just are there any major issues to look for, service costs , dealers that are good, and those to avoid. The last Ducati i owned was a 748, my previous bike was a Rsv4 factory non aprc. I am trying to choose between the 1199s and a Rsv4 RF.
I have had both and whilst the press all rave about the RSV4 I found I was quicker on the pani. The RF sounded awsome with a full akro system - probably the nicest sounding bike I have ever heard. Ducati have a better dealer network and depending on where you live people here will point you in the right direction. The pani is also the only bike I have owned that actually has me gong into the garage just to take a look!!!!
What is the budget? If 1299 is within budget I would go for that. The S with electronic Ohlins gives a good compromise of comfort and performance.
Upto 15k, nearest main dealer is pidcocks, for 15k i can get a brand new Rsv4 RF, but obviously a used 1199.
My 2015 1299s was only £16.5k from a main dealer in Sept. Well worth the extra, and you may find a cheaper one...
RSV4 was on my list, but as others have said, it doesn't look special (to me, I suppose we all have different tastes). I rideout with a newZX6R, new ZX10R, a new R1M, an RSV4, a H2, and my 1299s. The RSV4 is joint bottom with the 2 ZX's in terms of interest whenever we stop.
I think it looks great apart from the lights. I'd paint it yellow and just have the lettering on black and red.
go for a standard 1299 with akas fitted. I ride one and its awesome . akras give the bike the special vroooom.
Usually free exhaust offers on in winter too would wait for them to announce that. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Can't speak for the Aprilia but for the 1199S usual stuff - make sure all the recalls have been done. Decide if you can get on with the seat. Slippy as anything. If not get one off the 899. Sort out that jerky throttle with the £25 mod (2 pieces of tiny plastic). At each service ensure they check the 4 rocker cover bolts on each cylinder are nice & tight (otherwise fine mist of engine casings over time). Be prepared to toast your nuts at slow speed. Get out and ride! I only do trackdays, had an 1199S which got me hooked on Ducati and now have 2014 1199R. Love it to bits.
