Q on noise

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bugsbunny, Dec 30, 2012.

  1. Lubbing the chain tonight, bike on c stand.

As I spin the wheel there is a ball barring crunching noise (only for a half sec) at a specific position, wheel bearing or brake ? Any ideas

Theres no play on wheel side to side.

probably not the bearing as that would show up throughout the wheels rotation, more likely to be the brakes!

  3. Tight spot on the chain/sprocket?

  4. Thanks for replies, probably not bearing. Had another listen this morning. Noise now a lot less only just noticeable, could b brake or chain tightspot (weird if it is chain as I never heard that one before).

Guess a bit more riding and hitting back break will tell.

    Bugs.

  5. If it is of concern just whip the chain off and spin the wheel, at least you can eliminate the chain that way.

  6. Mine did that once. Took caliper off and re did chain tension spending loads if time finding tight spot and adjusting. Went away. Could be some crap in a roller but is a process of elimination. Check pads aren't stuck and free of crap

  7. My guess is it's the pads just rubbing slightly on a certain part of the disc as the disc revolves. Have you tried actuating the brake hard and then spinning the wheel? that might eliminate the noise.

Very quick and easy job to remove caliper and spin the wheel to eliminate everything else bar the caliper.
