Hi all, I haven't owned a Ducati for a few years, the last one being a Paso 750, and have been riding a Suzuki SV650S for a while now. Well, though the SV engine is nice enough, I'm sick of the crap handling and I've decided to invest in another Ducati. I'm currently looking at a couple - one is a Monster 696, the other is a 750SS. I've always liked the look of the SuperSports and this is probably the one I'll go for. Does anyone out there have any useful info regarding these, like any known problems I might need to look out for? It's a 2001 model with 22000 miles on the clock, the right hand silencer can has a dent and scrape on it, but I'll probably change the exhaust anyway. Any constructive comments would be welcome! TIA muzzer
get as much service history as possible and whatever you plan on spending on it for mods etc triple it lol but most of all enjoy it
Hi there, I have a 900ss ie 2003 (yellow). Great bike, poor in town but great on the bends. Had to replace the solanoid/starter relay early on after getting it. I think it's quit common and eBay has loads of them. The little white connector that goes into it is crap and can work loose. What ever you do don't jet wash it like I did at the weekend. Only other thing from my POV is I have it on an optimate all the time. Oh yes I also replaced the battery and spark plugs but that's about the limit of my mechanical ability I suppose. Cheers Mark
The aircooled engines have been around for so long now that serious problems have been ironed out long ago. A 696 will be at least 8 years newer so probably better electrics etc. I love the ssie range and only stopped riding one as too many sports injuries were making it painful to use for more than half an hour at a time . The Trouble has a 696 and each time I ride it I am amazed by just how good it is and so easy too. Whichever you choose I`m sure you`ll be delighted. Good luck.
