  1. Alright Gents,

New to the forum so here goes... I've attached pictures of a leak I'm getting on this part of the Bike but couldn't describe it. Can anyone tell me do I need a new nut or is this part going to need to be replaced ?

It's leaking Engine coolant, so obviously the temp gauge it's going nuts on it :(

  2. The aluminium cast housing that has the 3 temp sensors fitted to it
has a O-ring on the stub on the rear that fits inside the aluminium flange which fits to the cylinder head
which has a 0-ring to to seal it as well.
The big sensor one of the 3 sensors has a washer/seal the other 2 sensors just seal with the threads/sealer.

  3. Hi Mikey, I had the very same thing happen on mine a couple of years ago now, and I'm trying to recall what how etc!!?? It's a strange arrangement as I recall, behind the back of the thermostat housing is a (I think!!) a three bolted union type flange affair with two bolts showing outward and one inward!! If you strip it you'll see how it works, they couldn't have made it anymore complicated if they tried as a design but it is relatively simple to fix. My best guess is the inward bolt has loosened itself and the seal has perished. If you're lucky the seal will be ok and reusable but don't count on it!! A thin smear of Hermatite blue or similar will make do as a quick bodge to seal the flange but don't leave it like that! Just take your time and strip it out methodically and you should be ok, count on about a good hour ish from start to finish and it should be right as rain. Loctite 243 on the threads should stop it coming out again, it has mine. :upyeah:

    Sorry meant temperature sensor!! Doh!

  5. It's the temperature sensor o-ring (my pdf parts manual says its part number 93823.2087 - drawing 033 - 16) Baines Racing at Silverstone or moto rapido should be able to help by return post or any established Ducati dealer might have it but will be able to order it in for you. I'm not entirely sure the part number will be 100% accurate as the drawing is for an 02 bike? and Ducati like to change part numbers on a whim. Good luck.

  6. Greyman ... How the hell do you get the inward bolt out ???? I've managed to get 2 out but it looks like it's being held with another bolt on the other side ..... Losing the will to live :(

  7. Mikey - Truth is mate I can't remember!! I'm looking at the exploded diagram as I type this to try and refresh my memory and (as daft as it sounds) I think if you give the sensor body as a whole a fairly good tug, (now that you've undone the two outers) it should come away from the head flange!! I said it was a crap design. Keep us posted - stick with it chap it ain't that difficult ...

  8. So the story continues ............... I have no idea how the hell I take this off, I'm unable to get a allan key to get to it as I think this could be the root of all problems !

  9. When I stripped my engine I came across the same conundrum.
I was able to grab the housing and turn it by hand and the screw came loose, how the hell you tighten it back up I really don't know as I sold the engine.

    Good luck.

  10. I'm all out of ideas now - someone help please??

  11. You remove the sensor assembly first before you can get at the screws behind.
The one you have removed keeps the assembly located inside the flange on the cylinder head.
The assembly has a stub with a O-ring on it it will be furred up/corroded which causes
it to be stiff/hard to turn/twist out.

  12. Totally spot on Brian .. It eventually came out but was a total nightmare ! .. Just use lots of DW40 and force !
