Can anyone tell me the size and thread on these items from the fairing stay mounts on a 900ssie as I want to use the holes on the engine to mount a bellypan and need to buy some threaded rod to do so. Apologises for the crap pic.....robbed it from ebay e holes on the engine for mounts for a belly pan and want to buy some threaded rod.
no i cannot, but to be sure you could always just get one bolt of each size, M6, M8 & M10 from B & Q and use them as a gauge.
hi bud i think they are 10 mm standard as in 1.5 pitch thread i put a bolt with plenty of copper grease in the redundant holes when i removed mine so the threads didnt corrode too much
IIRC they should be M10 x 1.5...... .....and if you have them in the engine now, watch it, because they should be ally and likely to break as you try to undo them.........
If they're the ones that thread into the sides of the front cylinder then yes, M10 x 1.5 ('standard' M10).
Thought so.......I know because paulk563 has a broken one (seized solid and well corroded in) which has snapped off flush with the casting........a stud remover failed and that's stuck in there at the moment, so it it is going to be a lot of careful drilling down the edge of the thread to be able to break it out............If the casting thread is buggered, I have already made an M12 insert to go in which is tapped M10 x 1.5. They tend to snap flush because the flats to remove them are at the outside end of the bars, so the torsion simply twists the d*mn things off...........the best place to grip them is close to the casting but there isn't much room there..........Mine are still in place for exactly the same reason even though I have a half fairing fitted.....
Thanks for the info guys, mine came out without much of a fight to be honest..... bit of penetrating spray and they just unscrewed. Onto the next task the bellypan
Certainly am, bikes only done 9k miles on an 04 plate so I think they still thought they were new....... I must have caught them by suprise
I expect my threads would be perfect..............if I could get the d*mn things out without them snapping..........I have soaked the joint with various penetrating oils when the engine is cold / is hot; given them a blast with a blowlamp......no budge.....I know they will snap if I give them too much oomph.......Still, they give the MOT tester the chance to express his curiosity........
