V4 Questions From A Newb

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by SteveMat, Jan 29, 2024.

  1. With the impending arrival of the new bike, I've got a few questions I can't seem to find any opinions on:
    1. Where is the best place to mount your phone? Handlebar Mount or Top Clamp Mount?
    2. What additional MSV4 specific tools do you recommend to take on tour?
    3. Is there a place big enough to store a Rocky Creek compressor?
    4. Would you recommend headlight covers? If so, what make?
    5. Screen protector on dash or not? Again, if so, what make?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Evotech GPS Mounts or Quad Lock are good choices.
    2. The bike has a little toolkit, or should do. Just slap a spare 8mm and 10mm spanner and the same sizing for allen keys. That should do it.
    3. It MAY fit into the abysmal phone holder slot, if not, under the seat (if no tool pack there)
    4. Never used, don't see the need to
    5. Yes!!! Get a screen protector, my 1260 has gotten so scratched up over the years. Not sure where, but a quick google shows this.
Additionally, I'm not sure about the V4's, but Ducati are renown for shipping bikes from the factory with terrible default suspension setups. For example, the 1260 comes with preload fully wound out (or in, can't remember) on the front which needs to be set to your weight at minimum. Else the bike handles like arse. It might be worth checking for the V4

I don't mount my phone on the bike - so cant help with that
    1. What additional MSV4 specific tools do you recommend to take on tour?
36mm Socket for rear wheel nut. I got a small one from CNC Racing that does the front nut as well
    1. Is there a place big enough to store a Rocky Creek compressor?
No - space under the rear seat is very limited, maybe a small puncture kit. I use a small Givi Dolomite top box (30 litres) for everyday riding bits and pieces
    1. Would you recommend headlight covers? If so, what make?
Never had them fitted on any multi and have not had an issue
    1. Screen protector on dash or not? Again, if so, what make?
Any protector is a good idea for the dash, venture shield, road angel - take your pick.

    Enjoy the new bike :)

  2. 1: In your inside pocket; if you risk the information inside it either back it up or better still write all your contacts down on paper using a pen. Something they use to revere by way of beautiful calligraphy via hands or digits on ones limbs.

3: Great kit, paired with a stop-n-go puncture repair kit you're good to go if the STHF

5: Yes, my bmw 10+ years old is better than a year old plastic shite ducati dash screen.

  3. IMG_0858.jpeg The dash screen is pretty well protected in its adjustable mounted position so I'm not sure what you're protecting it from. (It's not a touch screen) Most popular device mounts used in the UK are made by Evotech Performace and Iconic. Their mounts can be purchased with a quadlock adaptors or a Garmin adaptors. I decided to mount a Garmin above the dashboard on an iconic mount and put a quadlock mount on the bars. You can also get device mounts that use the handlebar bolting position.
One minor issue I've found is the Garmin XT2 is quite heavy and when the windshield is in the highest position you do get a bit of 'bounce and vibration' on the Garmin, this comes from the way the screen raising mechanism works, it has a bit of play in it.

  4. I fitted a screen protector but even after trying two I couldn’t get all the bubbles and marks out so I took it off. I think the V4 screen is a lot more robust than the previous models.

  5. I hope so, I so much as flirt with my 1260 screen and it gets scored.

  6. See red above ^^^^^

  7. 1. Iconic mounts screen mount with a quad lock charger/case, I have the vibration mount on mine but I don’t think it’s actually needed. Screen has a little bit of bounce so almost self damps. Ive tied the vibration mount up a bit with a cable tie. May remove it completely

    2. nothing specific to multistrada
    3. No idea, pannier? I have a tyre repair kit with air canisters
    4. Nope
    5. Nope

    HTH.
