More help. Can anyone tell me if these are QR brake hoses? If so, how do they work? If not, what are they?
They are not, they are screw together -3 AN fittings for teflon braided hoses. Someone made the brake hoses at home. Nothing wrong with those fittings other than being Aluminium. They aren't supposed to be used on brakes as the pressure rating is too low. Saying that, I have used them on brakes without problem.
Here's some info from the AN website. It's not the aluminium that isn't rated high enough it's the screw together fittings that aren't. https://www.anfittingsdirect.com/an-fittings/aluminum--12an-fittings-p-234.html
Thanks. That’s useful to know. I think they are Venhill judging by the V on the union. I will most likely bin them off for some HEL lines just incase this bike ends up on a track.
As said earlier, they’re not QR unions, just old fashioned ones that for some reason don’t use a banjo fitting. I had them on my 96 748.
There are many copies of AN fittings out there Earls, Are, Goodridge etc. Steel with a crimp is the safe way to go on brakes.
I had those on a 916 years ago. The MoT tester wasn't impressed - can't remember if it was a fail or an advisory, but I changed them anyway (they were also a rather naff combination of red and purple...).
This is a quick release line mate, unfortunately hel don’t do them anymore though as I wanted them on my bike
HEL don't make them but they do sell Stahlbus dry-break couplings so pretty sure they could incorporate them into a set of custom lines if needed. Not sure on the price point for a complete kit though. https://www.helperformance.com/staubli-quick-release-dry-breaks
So it came with the line going into the upper calliper hole from new, not just because both threads are m10 - I had assumed that they had been swapped as part of the line change. Did original lines use a banjo into the top hole? Did the early bikes not come with braided hoses as standard? Just curious as to why they have been “upgraded”.
