Just got back from my hols in France and thought I would take the bike out for a quick blast. I've noticed when I'm up shifting up using the quickshifter from 3-4 4-5th gear the bike is stuttering/lulling momenteraly. Anyone experienced this or can offer some advice on it?
What revs are you changing up? The higher the better where a QS is concerned as the ignition cut isn't as noticeable
its a about 4 to 5k revs. There just seems to be a delay between the shifts (more noticeable than normal) and when it does shift it's quite jerky. I'll try it out again in the week and see if its still doing it and if it is just pop it into Ducati Cov.
not much help, but i had a software update recently, the ignition cut out seems longer at lower revs now, making the qs more usable at more revs, like the 1299 is. If you take it in, get an update if available.
Think I have cured it. Gave Ducati Cov a call and explained the problem and was asked if it was still under warranty to which I replied no. I then get the "oooooo arrrr oh dear" and I'm thinking frigginell this is gonna cost me. The guy then said they've had a few in where the chamber on the quickshifters are going dry, so i asked if WD40 would cure it and he said it could do if I took it off and sprayed it. I didn't bother taking it off, i just sprayed the little rod and hey presto no problems. If it happens again I will take it off but hopefully what i've done should do the trick.
I've not got it back from Snell Performance yet as I asked for some other work to be done but it looks like this was the problem with my quick shifter as well. It hasn't worked reliably for about six months until I dropped it in the gravel at Rockingham, since which it has worked!! Turns out the top ball joint was seized up on mine as well so hopefully thats all good now.
My quick shifter works ok going up, I've had 2 issues going up from 3-4 and 4-5 where I had red lights flashing all over the dash and the bike never went in to the gear I was wanting and on down shifts it doesn't want go, I've tried banging it hard going down, tried light touch, on a few occasions after stopping on a run then setting off quick shifter works well for a few gear changes, but down shift it doesn't want to play at all, I speak to my dealer but I'm thinking they will tell me I'm not doing the change up or down correctly but I'll give them chance
Hi Tor, do you own an 1199? The red flashing on the dash is probably the bike revving up to the red line, when it reaches that range the clock indicates goes red to indicate to change up. Also i am not sure the quick shift on the 1199 is meant for downshifting, i was told by Tony from Ducati Wolverhampton you can change down seamlessly without the use of the clutch but found out here that actually you can't and shouldnt attempt it unless you want to nacker your gearbox. if you are still having trouble changing up try a little bit of WD40 on the plunger that goes is connected to the little black actuator (not sure what you call it but you will see) if that doesn.t work then try taking the QS off and and give it a good old working with the WD40. If that fails then take it back to the dealership. if its under warranty they will replace it, if it isn't then you will be looking at about £120-£150 to replace it (not sure if that covers labour)
Tur80 - 1199s does not have a downshifter, that's only on the new bikes, 1299 etc. Iif you are not at fairly high throttle with the upshift then it can drop out into neutral and over rev which is probably what you did. Ducati changed the electronics to damp the engine for a little bit longer because of this. Quick shifters are supposed to be used at reasonably high revs rather than lazy shifting whilst slow, not that Ducati tell you this! By the way, I got my bike back from Snell after the service and they had lubed up the quick shifter rose joints and it works perfectly again
