Quick Shifter - Advice

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by t3scn, Oct 11, 2015.

  1. Hello all,

It's been along time since I've been on the forum and my 749 has been unused for over a year.

This month I finally got it back up and running, then took it to Cadwell for a track day where she went well :)

Anyway, it got me thinking about a quick shifter.

Who currently runs one, what's your thoughts and experiences?

    Recommendations on brands/manufacturer?

I have a Ducati Corse four post slipper clutch, I'm not sure if this would make any difference.

    Cheers

  5. HM plus. If I were buying, wouldnt buy anything else.

  6. Another vote for HM. Plug and va va vooooooooooom....!

  7. After getting out on the 999 for the first decent ride yesterday after having a new Sigma slipper clutch installed, i really missed not having a QS. Are these easily installed on a 999 ?. I have never installed a QS as i've always had them fitted in the past, but this looks like a decent system to install yourself ?

  8. its plug n play. Fairing off so you can reach coil connections and plug the qs in. Connetc a neutral line and put qs on splined shaft. 60 mins plenty of time to install.

  9. Plug and play. Easy. Just make sure you have a really good earth on the frame

  10. Mine came with a loooooooooooooooong earth lead that I run to the batt.

  11. Is it a push or a pull type for the 749/999?

  12. My HM plus lever was delivered this morning, if I get time i'll install it tonight.

  13. I've had standard QS on BMW S1K, Panigale & R1, I've also had HM QS, HM+, HMSS and Blip Box Pro fitted to my bikes.
I would say on the BMW the HM quick shifters were better than standard, mainly due to the "direct, solid lever" feel. I.E. not overcoming the spring type effect of the standard shifter.
On the Panigale I would say the standard shifter was great, no benefit with the HM SS I had on it.
On the R1 the standard shifter is excellent, no need to change.
However, I have now the Blip Box Pro fitted to the R1 and Panigale - Upshifting is every bit as good as standard but the clutchless downshifting is fantastic.

What do I think of Quickshifters? I had a problem on day 1 at Almeria with my HMSS (at the time) fitted to my Ducati and I was ready for coming home. Once you get used to it it's absolutely essential. Made me feel like the bike was unusable without it, which it wasn't of course.
As for the clutchless downshifting, it's everything for downshifting that the QS is for upshifting.

All of the above on the track.
Not a boast, I just been through loads of them and someone may benefit from my experience.

    Davy

  14. Totally agree that the hm plus qs does not work well on the Panigale, but very pleased to hear the blip box works well as i will be fitting one soon,so will have a hm plus for sale with a panigale loom and a 1098(i think) loom, they do a 999 loom that you can buy,if you are interested drop me a pm.
