Just back from the TT and yet more problems with my V4S (if you see my earlier post I had to have the exhaust servo replaced a couple of days before I got the ferry) anyway, second day there more warning lights on the dash, but at first no difference in performance, then suddenly I couldn't down shift properley and soon after the upshift was knackered as well, at this time I did get an error message on the dash, so it was back to the digs to have a check but nothing obvious. I did the obvious things such as disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and at first this seemed to work and the shifter worked for at least a minute, I rang the dealer and that said they had no idea but would ring Ducati and get back too me, in the meantime i headed up to the circuit to watch some racing but it was a nightmare journey with the bike apparently "hunting" for gear changes and the revs were all over the place, when I got to creg ny baa my head was in shreds and I thought the only way to continue to ride was to switch the QS off and ride old school, this was confirmed half an hour later when the dealer rang and said Ducati had said to do the same and if it rode OK then it was the QS unit that was the problem and it would be safe to ride, I did this after watching the races and calming down and all seemed ok, however the next day the "engine diagnosis mil light" came on again indicating I had another servo problem, so not happy, but continued to ride the bike for the rest of my TT time. I am now home and tomorrow the bike will be delivered to the dealers (who have been very responsive) and left there for the next two weeks while I am away with work, to give it a thorough check and replace the servo and QS and whatever else it needs. Sorry for such a long story, but whilst I love this aggressive and thrilling bike, I feel like I am paying Ducati for being a test rider, has anyone had the same issues?
I have the same problem with a quickshifter. After 20 - 30 min riding the quickshifter will jsut stop where you will not abe able to shift up or down. If the bike is turned off for 20 min or so the quickshifter is back to the working state until next 20-30 min ride. It is at the dealership at the moment as i am waiting for the verdict. Wonder how Ducati QA's their newly released units.. I ran accross another post rider from IT also encounter quickshifter issues. This one does have a smell of another V4S recall. Sucks that we are the testers here..
Yes mine was delivered to the dealers a fe2 hours back, I guess it is watch this space for the various outcomes....
I was at CSS @ Silverstone yesterday, and both the 4Vs i rode had to be returned to the pit lane with engine management (EM) lights on. I suspect the (EM) fault was related to the Quick Shifter, as it became very unpredictable on the down shifts i.e the blip was out of sync with the gear change + it was cutting out very abruptly on acceleration - without any pressure on the gear lever. TBH is was very poor showing of the V4'S as they had approx 1000 miles on them each, and the Ducati brand in general - as most of the other riders where commenting on the EM light being illuminated on most of the bikes (959 etc). CSS did say the bikes were being put up for sale in the near future, if any one wanted one.....
Ive had a similar problem with mine on my 1299, do they use the same connection rod with the switches in them? Mine died pretty quickly, gave me all sorts of bother until it finally gave up..... i fitted a trans logic plug and play unit..... faultless now.
I had the same problem with the QS on my 1299 last summer. It was working absolutely fine for 12 months but then the warning light would come on and it disabled the QS. Had to be replaced by the dealer.
Hmmm, not really good enough is it? Paying 24k for a bike then encountering one niggle after the other. Imagine the uproar if it were brand new cars failing right, left and centre. My worry is that I get to Almeria or wherever on a track day gig and my bike shits itself after a day. I've seen it quite a bit with Aprilia's. Mainly electronic issues.
Cue ‘it’s a bike, they all have niggles, cost is no guarantee of quality, it’s the brand you are buying, if you don’t want that buy a bmw’ comments But you are right: it’s not good enough that so ma y seem to be failing
I've seen BMW bits all over the pit lane garage floor too. But I do seem to get my fair share of spanner action using a Ducati
I've done just over 1600 miles on my V4S and all has been well until yesterday when I noted a reluctance to change gear from 2nd to 3rd using quickshifter and had to manually change up. Stopped bike and tried turning ignition on/off which appeared to work but then later on my ride it starting playing up again both on downshift/upshift. On my return home again it was spontaneous and to a point I couldn't rely on it soon after I noted the Race mode text started to flash and an error message appeared alongside DQS and the yellow warning symbol appeared in bottom right of dash. Disappointed with Ducati as on 30 min test ride on V4S (different to mine) I experienced the quickshifter working and then stopped working, had thought this was maybe an isolated problem but clearly not. Nearest dealer is 3hrs away so not overly convienient but will take down if need be, my only concern having read other threads that this may happen again and again after dealer "replaces/fixes issue". Any suggestions on possible alternatives? i.e. aftermarket parts etc?
Have you had your latest quick shifter software update installed ? Would have been in the last 2 or 3 weeks. Andy
Hi Andy, I don't believe so, bike was in for first service mid June so suspect not. Has this eradicated the issue?
Hurragh!! I hope you're right! I've heard of a lot of glitches with the DQS. @nelly I think you've done this on mine??
If I had a V4 I’d be concerned they shipped a bike with a software defect that makes this happen. Software and gearboxes... ouch
I'm 90% certain mine was updated before I rode it. Unless there's been another one! I've just had one on my car too, which is a 2012 model...
Updates aren’t a concern, they nearly always release them with something a bit wry. But...gearbox having incorrect cut times etc could cause some real damage. In fairness, it’s sounds like default is ‘don’t work’ which could be a bit of mechanical protection
